Wow drop point selling for $600.00 on Ebay scalpers couldn't even wait for it to ship. It would be nice if we could do pre-orders for collectors and have the knives with serial numbers maybe on the inside of the scales where it is not obvious or somewhere on the pivot area.
I would pay an extra $15.00 to $20.00 for this so I wouldn't have to miss out.
Of course sell regular stock like is being done now and first come first serve.

It's a feature, not a bug. Spyderco and the vendors aren't interested in selling less knives and less quickly.BeggarSo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 11:43 amWow drop point selling for $600.00 on Ebay scalpers couldn't even wait for it to ship. No longer buying new Spyderco knives due to policies described here. Wallets speak louder than keyboards.
Re: Jeff Loffer from Cutlery Shoppe the new PM2 in REX 121
As I recall there used to be a club that people paid memberships to Spyderco and would receive things ahead of time with numbers on the blades does that still exist?

Re: Jeff Loffer from Cutlery Shoppe the new PM2 in REX 121
Yes, their collectors club program still exists. It is free to join but requires a significant financial commitment to purchase every new release.
The number is often put on the blade next to the Spyderhole.

Did the wharncliffe version also sell during this time? I was hoping to grab one, but forgot to add this one to my calendar.

Re: Jeff Loffer from Cutlery Shoppe the new PM2 in REX 121
I’ve watched one of the videos in this thread and the follow up video where someone actually has some sort of cut test protocol they put it through and the results were disappointing.
However, I have questions. I think the biggest ones were the same ones other people were asking - what media are you using to sharpen it and what is your sharpening protocol? I think the only thing I initially saw in his videos was some sort of ceramic rod - what seemed to me to be a total mismatch. However, there have been other reports, where it seems like people are doing or using the right thing, guided systems and diamond stones and still struggling with results. Heck, I think I even remember Larrin’s article on REX-121 describing even their difficulty in sharpening it, so I don’t think this is an isolated thing.
I’ve only sharpened my REX-121 Sage 5 once, and it actually was a really good experience, relative to the reports I had been hearing, but I that point I knew that it didn’t respond well to super low grit diamond stones (sub-400) so I think I touched it up on something around 800 grit diamond and it did well.
I think Spyderco may also struggle with sharpening these. I have heard several reports of REX-121 coming dull from the factory, and mine was also - it couldn’t cut printer paper. This could be a big issue if someone isn’t prepared to deal with that adequately, and that may be somewhat responsible for some initial negative press.
A majority of these knives are probably going to be collectors items and therefore never see much use. I think the reason why I didn’t have more interest is that REX-121 is an imbalance for me, out in the field. Since I’m up on ladders, working over concrete, etc., something in Cruwear would be a better match. I admire both the knife and the effort Spyderco put in to make them happen, and I think a K390 wharncliffe exclusive would be a lot more up my alley, and probably the hardest I’d like to go in steel HRC. Plus K390 is such a responsive and user-friendly steel.

Both of my Rex 121 Sage's had sharp factory edges on them. I don't expect any different with these. These are not the HIC Mules.
Re: Jeff Loffer from Cutlery Shoppe the new PM2 in REX 121
I would go for K390 for sure I have quite a few models in it and it is incredible.
As for sharpening not all abrasives are as good as others, it may be diamond but that does not make them good.
I have been using the Ukranian produced PDTOOLS silver bonded CBN Stones with a new Hapstone and TSPROF Axicube, so far they devour S30V, M390, S45VN and deliver a perfect edge by comparison to my Vanev slow pokes. It will be a while before I need to take these stones to 15V, k390 or Rex- 121 but based on what I have seen so far it should be a breeze.

I was perusing BladeBinge a while ago. I came across the very recently released PM2 Warncliff in Rex 121 for only $599.00
Re: Jeff Loffer from Cutlery Shoppe the new PM2 in REX 121
Lol yeah look on Ebay the scalpers are trying to find the "Sucker Price" last I saw it was between 400 and $600 yet no Wharncliffes, hmmm...silver & black wrote: ↑Sat Jan 10, 2026 3:43 pmI was perusing BladeBinge a while ago. I get it there may be buyers remorse and Ebay takes so much out of the sale now but $4 to 600.00 isn't trying to break even.
Using an ebay Calculator figuring $10.00 for shipping and 7% sales tax here are the results when the knife cost $265.

Re: Jeff Loffer from Cutlery Shoppe the new PM2 in REX 121
I have the PM2 standard blade coming. With shipping it was $275.00. These scalpers are nuts. I get making a little money but, this is ridiculous. Then again.... if someone will buy, who am I to judge?
Re: Jeff Loffer from Cutlery Shoppe the new PM2 in REX 121
Oops yeah $275. Mine are supposed to show up Monday and Tuesday Wharnie first followed up by the drop point.

Just because those people are asking those prices, doesn't mean they're going to get them. Takes a sucker!

Yep. Leave them out there a while. If no one buys, the prices will drop accordingly. I will be a buyer on the wharncliffe when the price comes down. I couldn't swing purchasing both at this time, so I will have to pay a bit more when I can do it.
Re: Jeff Loffer from Cutlery Shoppe the new PM2 in REX 121
Mine came today, a perfect specimen! Blade centered, action smooth, zero lock stick, with a push cutting factory edge.
