Sir, I don't believe MagnaMax will make Magna-Cut or other steels obsolete or undesirable, just as MagnaCut didn’t eliminate S35VN, M390, or CPM-3V. It’s a specialized steel offering higher wear resistance, likely appealing to users who prioritize edge retention over toughness. I've read your post here and have taught me that knife industry thrives on variety, and steels remain relevant based on application, cost, and preference. MagnaCut will continue to be a gold standard for balanced performance, while MagnaMax will carve out its niche. I'd like to know anything else on this , as I keep chasing steel. I thank you in advance.

It's Sal's work too... interesting part I got from this, is it locks the knife closed also. Very interesting Mr. Sal, please give us more details on this Sir?

This might mean we get a Manix with both Eric and Sals signatures on the blade. I think the MagnaMax and the Manix 2XL would be a perfect model for this...

I'm am down for trying a couple, sound great to me especially on the Manix 2XL. I have done everything here on my little Manix 2's and I just flat won't edc them. I basically collect them only I guess lol.

We've been calling it the "Roto-Wedge" in house. It was invented a number of years ago along with another lock which was patented, but not yet produced.

Thanx for the encouragement. We have more ideas that we can put into actual product.

I vote that Dr Larrin gets more votes than the normal humans since he is the MagnaMax creator.

I'd also vote for a Small Persian Folder™ 2 G-10, C105G2, preferably updated with screw construction.

A vote for the Bow River in Pops Pro Cut as well.

People say, no it won’t replace XYZ steel. Sounds like if it really has the properties of stainless K390, then it WILL replace S30V, S35VN, S45VN, S90V, S110V, and 20CV at minimum, by virtue of having more toughness than any of these steels, better or similar corrosion resistance, and better or similar edge retention (S90V properly treated having about the same there).

To me, this has more potential to be all-things steel for a folder even more so than Magnacut. Magnacut is the highest edge holding steel that approaches the corrosion resistance of LC200N. For most tasks using a folding knife, and even most using a fixed blade, edge retention is king. K390 sharpens super easy with diamonds and tough enough for any actual knife task. It’s the corrosion that’s the annoyance with amazing tool steels like K390 and 15V.

Unless it’s ultra finicky in sharpening, how objectively can you say, if you favor edge retention, other steels are as good, just different? There really are full classes of steel that will be made obsolete by Magnamax, save for cost of production.

Have we seen any numbers from Larrin or elsewhere to substantiate this “stainless K390” rep?

Will Magna Max be labeled as MM on knives? I like M&M as an acronym MM also means 2K since M means 1000 in Roman Numerals. Seems MM will be good in most folders that are not treated as pry bars.

Not sure where objectivity comes into this for most people, but here's one perspective: I would say "all good, just different" because I don't use all of my tools the same way. I'm super into edge retention, but I don't use the same steel in every knife. The serrated salt series blade strapped to my PFD when boating is used differently from the 15V or Maxamet blades I slay cardboard with, which are both different from the 8CR27MOV blade I absolutely abuse in the garden and the 1095 fixed blade I bludgeon through logs at camp. So even though edge retention is always on my mind, I'm unlikely to want the same steel for every use-case.
