You're right. I could have worded myself better. Too early to determine any trends. Let's rather say I'm hoping some of the deviations from earlier releases and practices could be indicative of a trend. Hope that helps, and that the rest of my post make more sense from that perspective.Bolster wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 10:24 pmPlease elaborate. He was insinuating (or hoping?) that by Spyderco making the Spynano six hundredths of an inch (.06”) over 2.5” that is somehow indicative of a trend that Spyderco is now following where they do not prioritize what he considers arbitrary legal restrictions.Bolster wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 10:24 pmPlease elaborate. I personally do not think this is the start of any trends. If anything I think the knife was primarily supposed to be a faithful representation of a Lionsteel design, except with a Spydiehole thumb opener. Since it is a Lionsteel design, they probably didn’t even consider such a localized knife law in a different country to them when designing the knife. It would not surprise me if the blade being 2.56” versus 2.5” wasn’t even a conscious decision and more of just an inadvertent result of making a smaller Myto.
This is the one I have most interest in. I missed out on the previous releases of 15V and I haven't bought a Military 2 yet. It will be for me one of the ultimate expressions of what Spyderco does. I just hope I can snag one.Deadboxhero wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 8:58 amI begged Eric for that Military 2 in CPM 15V.
Very exciting to see its finally getting closer to being in our pockets.
That's some serious slicing power.

I wasn't trying to put any words in your mouth. I thought I was paraphrasing the part of the post you mentioned me in where you expanded greatly upon what you "hoped was indicative of trend." Also for what it's worth, you did say blade restrictions were arbitrary, you just called them "legal length limits" but there's no difference. Call them what you want though because "arbitrary" is probably one of the nicer things I would call them.aicolainen wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 2:40 pmPutting a lot of words in my mouth there.Mushroom wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 7:36 amHe was insinuating (or hoping?) that by Spyderco making the Spynano six hundredths of an inch (.06”) over 2.5” that is somehow indicative of a trend that Spyderco is now following where they do not prioritize what he considers arbitrary legal restrictions.Bolster wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 10:24 pmPlease elaborate. I even said that with this specific model being just .06" over the nearest 0.5", it's not a good example of such prioritization. With Lionsteel being a European company, it would really surprise me if they aren't at least as conscious with regards to blade lengths as Spyderco is. I have no idea why it ended up being the length it is, but yes - I'm hopeful that for some short handled knives the priorities will be performance driven rather than too focused on getting under the nearest 0.5". The Spynano is only one datapoint and doesn't tell us anything, but it may be one example of a target blade length not carrying the most weight in the decision process. If that's the case I welcome that.
I also never wrote that legal restrictions are arbitrary, there's usually a reason. But the lengths that are decided on mostly are. 2.5", 3.0", 3.5" are just example of roundish numbers that regulators pick depending on what they feel are reasonable lengths to allow, with little to no research to support their chosen limit. Personally I don't know of any jurisdiction where there's a limit for 2.5" locking knives.. Maybe Chicago? But then again, 2.56" is 6.5cm. That's a pretty roundish number too, so maybe that's a limit somewhere as well.
Just noticed that myself. Hopefully that means some 14C28N models on the way. One of my favorite steels that Spyderco doesn't use (yet?).Steeltoez83 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 11:30 pmThe grasshopper lineup getting sandvik 12c27 has me intrigued.
If the Police 4, Native Chief, and Military 2 were all US made models, which would you pick with 15v?Deadboxhero wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 8:58 amI begged Eric for that Military 2 in CPM 15V.
