That Delica is what I'm considering as well. I'd have to tell the new guy at work to let me come down to the warehouse and open everything, need to test a new knife

Re: 2024 Official Discontinued List
I was planning to order a blacked out FRN PE Resilience whenever the DLC Military 2 comes out, but maybe I'll just grab another CE. Works pretty well on such a long blade.
Think I'll grab some backup fine and medium bench stones. I love the ones I have for knives I run with more polished edges.

Re: 2024 Official Discontinued List
I have several Delicas and like them all but the HAP40 and K390 Wharnies are my favorites. Get one while you can

I thought the Waterway was the best small fixed blade knife I'd ever seen.
Re: 2024 Official Discontinued List
I'm surprised the Watu is still available at KC. That's a smokin' deal!

i don't have the k390, but my 20cv delica wharnie is the sliciest knife ever. it makes me want to cut everything.

Re: 2024 Official Discontinued List
Well I know Spyderco has their reasons but my wallet isn’t happy right now…I really wanted a Rockjumper SE in k390…guess I’m gonna try and get some that were on my wishlist
Re: 2024 Official Discontinued List
i'm disappointed about the rockjumper too. i really like the design, but ultimately preferred the slightly more compact delica wharncliffe. sad to see those go too. i guess it's time to grab a salt 2 wharncliffe.SaltyCaribbeanDfly wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 7:56 pmWell I know Spyderco has their reasons but my wallet isn’t happy right now…I really wanted a Rockjumper SE in k390…guess I’m gonna try and get some that were on my wishlist

Re: 2024 Official Discontinued List
The Delica wharnie k390 is what I just got…went to Knifecenter first and they had them at $85 but were sold out so I got one from DLT for $89…the salts were what I was most surprised about on the list but didn’t look them up cuz I’m good there but I’m sure there’s a deal somewhere to be had, good luckladybug93 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 8:04 pmi'm disappointed about the rockjumper too. i really like the design, but ultimately preferred the slightly more compact delica wharncliffe. sad to see those go too. i guess it's time to grab a salt 2 wharncliffe.SaltyCaribbeanDfly wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 7:56 pmWell I know Spyderco has their reasons but my wallet isn’t happy right now…I really wanted a Rockjumper SE in k390…guess I’m gonna try and get some that were on my wishlist

I have Delica Wharncliffes in K390, S30V, and 20CV - they are all great.
It looks like the VG-10 Wharncliffe is sticking around, unless I’m missing something, so that’s good, and we may see some exclusives (maybe) in future. Just trying to put a positive spin on the situation.

It's cool that Spyderco lets us know which items will be discontinued, so we can get what we want in case we've been indecisive. If we don't get what we want, it's our own fault.
I noticed several K390 models being retired. K390 is my favorite steel, so I hope that they're going to move that steel into other knives.

I'm hoping for some new collaboration models

I love the design but didn't like the scales. Great for when you have wet hands and are working with wet fish, but too abrasive for utility and bushcraft stuff for me.
If they brought it back with scales more like the Ronin I'd be thrilled.

Re: 2024 Official Discontinued List
It's very attractive. Delica and perhaps HP Delica would go great! G10 Dragonfly! Whew.
100%. That KnifeJoy blue, and the blue of SPY27 stuff, are way less controversial to us blue lovers I'd say. Royal and cobalt-type blues will always do better, if I were a bettin' man.

Re: 2024 Official Discontinued List
The wharnie delica in k390 sold out over night (just shopping at KC to keep shipping simple). I guess it wasn't crucial for me to get it, then I would have bought it already, but the reason I held back was to see if something more preferable would come along.aicolainen wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 4:30 pmIt's late here. I'll sleep on it and see if my models of interest are still on the shelves tomorrow. In the meantime, please go and buy them all. It would make tomorrow so much easier for me :D
With this big purge, that's sure to open up capacity to bring out new models and variants, which is kind of what I was hoping for. But seeing how hard a hit k390 models and wharncliffes are taking specifically it doesn't exactly spell a bright future for such combinations to come along in abundance.
Quite the dilemma.

Re: 2024 Official Discontinued List
If you have large hands, I can recommend the K390 Endela Wharncliffe too. It fits my hand better than the Delica, and I prefer it even though it has a slightly thicker blade. I barely notice the thicker stock when it zips through cardboard...aicolainen wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 1:55 amThe wharnie delica in k390 sold out over night (just shopping at KC to keep shipping simple). Re: 2024 Official Discontinued List
The blue used on Spyderco FRN k390 handles is the only blue knives I have from Spyderco, so I don't have much to compare with, but I really like it. Beside the Salts and a few knives in safety orange where the bright colors have a purpose, I generally prefer simple and subdued colors. Grey is a big favorite overall, black is just fine - but does actually create a fair bit of contrast against the colors I normally wear. The k390 blue is a mild hue of blue that goes great with jeans, so for me it blends in better than black 90% of the time. I'd be sad to see it go.

I don't have large hands, but that isn't my main motivation for looking at the Delica, specifically. I have a Thin Line Endela, and it works well for its intended purpose.
The wharnie DF2 in k390 has become my preferred work knife since I got it. For me and my work it's close to perfection, so I'm not looking to replace it. It's just to have a slightly larger alternative for the odd days that are less predictable. So while the Delica fits the bill as far as added edge length goes, what I've really have been hoping for is something in the same size bracket that would give me the same feeling of agility and control as the DF2, where I get my index finger right up next to the heel of the edge and very little, if any, handle sticking out from the back of my hand to hit on objects when working in tight spaces.
Something like a mini Rockjumper or the recently discussed, possible re-run of the Centofante 4 would be ideal. With the literal slaughtering of wharncliffes and k390 models, my hopes for any of these or similar whancliffes materializing in the near future is slim. Much less in k390.

All good. Yes the Seki wharnie line has been decimated. Too soon in my opinion.
