Maybe call it the Militia??
The liner lock is essential for military in the field or others who need to wear gloves.
A Militia is ordinary citizens… thus, Militia.

Missed this thread when it was trending. Interesting, even though it will be a pain to order from Norway, it’s probably too large to see any significant use, not very fond of coatings and I don’t know the least about 4V or how well it suits this particular knife. Not making the best case to convince myself it’s wise to shell out $300+ before I have it in hand.
Yet it’s, like many have pointed out, an iconic model that might be on its last stretch of trail.
I have nothing against liner locks, but not many appeal to me and this is said to be one of the best implementations. It would be a shame to never have experienced one.

IMO, 4v is one of the best steels you could ask for in a Millie. Good toughness, reasonable corrosion resistance for a tool steel and *unbelievable* “sharpenability”. Every time I touch up my St Nicks para 3, I’m shocked at its ability to take a laser beam edge with minimal effort.
Im not a huge DLC fan either but the color scheme makes for a good, unintimidating work carry for me

I have a couple of DLC blades, but I'd like them a lot more if they didn't have the DLC. I'm a huge fan of brushed steel (like the stock PM2). The only reason I buy these sprints/exclusives is because of the blade steel and overall look. For instance, my most recent 2 DLC's were the M4 Shaman BHQ with Green scales, and the PM2 S90V with OD green. I just couldn't resist those two. But if they offered those exact knives in non-DLC versions, I would've bought them instead, hands down, without hesistation.
You definitely have a point about "unintimidating", not to mention less reflective (for other certain applications) and for those reasons, I'm glad I own a few. But it's definitely not my preference. I'm going to try to avoid getting any more DLC's in 2023. Let's see how I do.

This 4V Military may be the stuff of legend. I wonder if it will exist. It’s a nice story for sure.

Thank you for the insight!
My interest has not weakened one bit after reading this. The DLC doesn't worry me too much. While I'm not exactly sure what I'll be using this type of knife for, i.e. where it fits in, it's definitively not for decoration. This size knife is also not something I'll be carrying when I want to keep a low profile, so esthetics, concealability and "murdered-out-ness" doesn't really matter as long as it's not butt ugly.

This would be the one thing that might keep me from picking this up. I would just never carry a knife of that size at work and I sometimes have a tough time buying a new knife if I don’t have the “ooo, this would be great for X” feeling.

absolutely agree. If I end up buying this, it's very much out of character for (the current) me. If I could be certain this knife wasn't approaching the end of its journey, and that this likely isn't the last convulsion to do something interesting with it (while in regular production), I'd be willing to wait in perpetuity for the right balance of price, effort and materials to come along to justify a try at this model. From what I can tell, that's not where we are though. It's a kind of FOMO for sure, so all the alarm bells are sounding, but yet a slightly different kind of FOMO. The correct diagnosis is probably; Fear of not ever having the opportunity to try out an iconic knife without having to pay scalper money.
If it proves to not be my cup of tea, it should be fairly easy to move along - even in the miniscule secondary market we have here.

Ok, I will say it, the Red G-10 and DLC is not a great combo in my opinion. I wish there was an option for a plain blade, but alas, it will not matter as I agree that the Military will really take advantage of the 4v. Maybe, if I get it before it sells out, this will be the first Spyderco I own that I will get custom scales for.
I have a Military with brown G-10 and that would look great with the DLC coated blade, however, that Military is silky smooth and I don't want to mess it up by switching scales. I just don't trust my self not to ruin it in the switch. Additionally, my Military was released 10 plus years ago, not sure if it would be exactly the same as one made today.
I have bought to many in the last month. So this might be my only Spyderco purchase for the first six months or so of 2023. Or at least I would like to tell myself that.

You could use RIT dye to change the scale color. I did that with my burple military. I turned it purple I really like it.

Rumor has it we could see these for sale before 2023.
Who else is getting one?
While I'm really excited for the Military 2, I'm grabbing at least one of these. It will be a great steel for the Military, and a great send off for the Millie should it stop getting sprints once the 2 launches.
Vivi come back. It’s here.

This would be a bit of a safe queen and a Gentleman's Folder for me.
Something to carry when you're dressing up.
A little counter indicated, I know, but one of the perks of being old.

It's pretty and will have exceptional resale value, but I feel properly served by my Rex45 Millie...unless FOMO truly takes over, I'll be watching this one...
ETA: Waiting on that 15V Millie or Millie2

I’m very happy to see a military exclusive, however I’ll be sitting this one out because I dislike red and prefer stainless.
