That looks good, iGeo.
Have fun with the Maxamet.

Looks good. I destroyed the scales on my 110v M2LW when trying to disassemble it a while back without a drill press. The next one I do I'm going to drill a slightly larger hole than the rivet head in a piece of sheet metal. Then it gets clamped over the rivet being worked on so only the head is exposed. Should prevent any damage when using a Dremmel.IowaGeologist wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 10:06 amI took the plunge and did my SPY 27 LW. Not going to lie, I love tinkering, but this was a pain in the ***. Not sure how people can do it without a drill press. Started with a Dremmel and took out a chunk of scale doing the rivet near the pivot before a switched to the drill press.
Thanks! I'll have to rig up a better clamp system even with a drill press, this was still moving around a little too much for my liking. Also will need to use an awl to get a good central spot for the drill bit, I noticed even my smaller pilot bits were skating around a bit.Josh Crutchley wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 11:36 amLooks good. I used a center punch to prevent my bits from walking. It was very effective, and I didn’t mar my scales even without a drill press. I think I prefer it without the press due to allowing more finesse and extra feel of how the process is going.IowaGeologist wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 2:51 pmThanks! These rivets are tough.
Interesting, did you use a Dremmel, hand drill, or power drill?attila wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 3:06 pmI used a center punch to prevent my bits from walking. I used a cordless drill with a small bit and then a burr for getting the rivet heads thin enough to shear when punching them through the washer underneath the head.IowaGeologist wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 3:15 pmInteresting, did you use a Dremmel, hand drill, or power drill?attila wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 3:06 pmI used a center punch to prevent my bits from walking. if knifejoker did another run of the 20cv m2lw, i'm guessing it would have screws instead of pins because that's how spyderco is making them now.
There's always the possibility that another dealer will commission a M2 LW exclusive with 20CV with different color handleBolster wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 9:14 pmWhat do you think the chances are, of Spyderco reissuing steels that were in previous pinned Manix LWs...in new screwed Manix bodies? What are the chances we'll ever see, for example, a screw construction LW manix in 20cv again? I'm trying to figure out whether to wait and hope for previous steels in new bodies, or to buy pinned on the used market.
I'm guessing the answer is: the past is the past, if you want a certain disco'd steel in a M-LW, better get one on the used market because chances of that steel coming around again in screw construction are slim. But...I'm not sure. What do you think?
