Excited to test out the new mule and start using a fixed blade. I probably don't have the extra time to make scales, definitely in for 2 on the next one and start experimenting.

Sight only crashed once for me. Otherwise a quick reload and everything went well. Five minutes from start to finish for my transaction. I am kind of impressed with you fellows not being pigs and only taking one so more people might enjoy one of these. Kudos to you.

wow those went fast, how many were there?

Spyderco needs to upgrade their webservers, they cant handle much load. Just like the seconds sale the page kept crashing and very sluggish.
Hi, infinkc:
Thank you for your feedback. The webservers are optimized and did well - we monitor it in real-time during every release. Unfortunately, there are a lot of variables that are beyond our control like device, connection speeds, VPNs, software, etc.

I've updated the pinned post with the MT30P quantity information. There were approximately 500 of the MT30P. With over 500 people logging on when it went live, it doesn't take long for them to sell out. As I mentioned in the original post, the MT30P was planned, and materials were purchased before the relaunch of the Mule Team program. We're working towards higher quantities for future Mule Teams.

We appreciate your interest and that you took the time to post.

Kristi

Managed to get one. Or I believe I got one. I'll be sure when I get the shipping update. It was very intense because from 8:58 I kept refreshing the page. Suddenly exactly at 9:00 I refreshed and it took nearly 5min to load the page. Luckily there was no errors. I thought I missed my chance. I didn't want to get two, one is more than enough for me. This way more people will have a chance to get one.

Well, at least you are forthright enough to admit that YOU were the guy slowing down the servers :winking-tongue

Yes, Kristi, thank you! I know this is a lot of work for you and the team. We do appreciate it, even when we don't score (I recently fumbled the Z-max).

I guess you are the leader of the Mule Team, Kristi!

@TazKristi As a new member here, I might be parroting a previous suggestion, but how about having a Mule team in a regular (S30 or similar) and possibly premium steel (C204P etc) as a part of the regular Spyderco lineup?

Heads up that these come from the factory with a screaming sharp edge. The last Z max mule was nowhere near this sharp.

I was fortunate enough to snag one. The Spyderco website, unsurprisingly, did slow down significantly right at 1000 my time(0900 MDT). It was tense and I worried at several points that it would sell out before I was able to finish checking out. My oldest nephew also snagged one. He had minimal issues, but he has excellent WiFi and a high end computer. He intends using his for a camping/heavy outdoor use knife. I had a buddy try snagging two, he ran into numerous issues and the Z-Wear mule was sold out before he worked through all of the issues. If I had not feared that getting greedy and trying for two might have prevented me from getting even one, I cannot honestly say that I absolutely would not have tried for a second one. Condolences to all who missed out this time around and I hope you will have better luck in the future.

TazKristi and Sal, thanks for all that y’all and the rest of the dedicated crew at Spyderco do for us customers and the knife community as a whole.

MT 30, I signed in 15 minutes early, and started refreshing the page as the time got closer. The first refresh at the release time showed Out of Stock, quicker than Non-Resident Idaho Elk Tags. Then it changed, with the drop down and Add to Cart button. It wouldn't add them because the response time was too slow. I tried again and I was able to do it, but it took a while for each step in the check out process to move forward. I was sweating it, but I was able to get through and I have received the order confirmation email.
Yeah, said out of stock, I think my second refresh came back maybe 20 or 30 seconds after the hour, which is fine, I was already on it.

I found this easier (slightly) than the previous two, I didn't find out about the first one this year so I missed that one. I did well on the seconds sale with the same strategy (prepare and be patient) so I think I would have at least had a shot. Maybe as so many Mules have come out this year there are less flippers and more of the intended audience, which would be great. We'll probably see some releases that don't sell out as quantity ramps up and eventually see it balance out.

Kristi,
I think your server is doing well. There is a limit to how many requests can be served in a given time (you know this, explaining for others) and timeouts happen when there are enough requests at once. Honestly, I'm glad that I haven't seen the server crash, drop items from the cart, etc - things that have happened with lots of online retail - Every time I've stuck it out, the cart retained my choices and then went through or didn't based on inventory.

Folks,
These things can be tough, and I know a lot of people are demanding Spyderco compensate for the extra load. What people don't seem to realize is that doing so would likely be very expensive, in terms of rewriting code, retraining tech folks (I know Spyderco has at least a coupe of tech-based folks, be they admins, social media relations or other), and paying several times as much on bandwidth and hardware based on maybe several hours a year of burst speeds. It would be foolhardy to put that money into something that wouldn't really let many more people in but seem "smoother". Turning things like the Mule and seconds sales into huge money pits in order to move the same amount of gear will make it harder to pay their people and invest in R&D and other great projects.

second in a row that I couldn't get. I tried calling early and couldn't get through. I have the first (?) mules ( all but maybe 3 or 4) and never had that trouble. I guess I'm getting left behind as I get old and slow. :)

Congrats to all the lucky ones who got one! I'm not as bummed as I would have thought I would be with this one since I already have the Z-Wear Shaman and a bunch of Cru-Wear Spydercos. I hope I can get my IP address fixed or something, this is the first time I have ever been flagged like this. Looking forward to future Mule drops.
I got one but had to use my phone, for some reason my desktop computer had the IP issue. I am excited for this one as it should be a great all around steel with some semi stainless properties.

Interesting... did your phone also connect to the same internet ISP or wifi that your desktop computer uses or was it on a different data network?

I'm sorry, Nerd. I was in your boat on the last drop...just couldn't make it work.

Thanks for the sympathy Bolster, but no worries! :) I'm just contented by the fact that it seems that most of us Mule-eteers here have gotten their copy of this drop. Seeing how the Spy 27 and the S45VN drops had outrageous after market sale values, because profiteers who had no interest at all in forwarding the Mule Team Project feasted on that drop for resale purposes...I just hope that this time, the Mules went to folks who are really into testing the steels as Spyderco intended the project to be.

Of course Cru/Z wear is one of my top most favorite steels for its balance, and given that I have no PD or Cru Mule, it would have been nice to have gotten this one also, but you can't win them all and I'm at peace with that.

I just find it weird at all that I have used the same ISP/wifi at home for my previous transactions with Spyderco, going back all over to the online seconds sale where I have gotten several orders in, to the previous Z-Max mule drop, and its only now that this error has happened. I just hope that this issue will be resolved in time for the next Mule drop!

My phone and computer were on two totally different networks. But I could have done it to myself as both were logged into the same account as “backup” if one stalled out. The desktop was a lot faster, but then IP error. So then I tried on my phone, slower but worked without issue.

One of these days the drop will occur at a time when I’m not pouring money into the truck, the house, a Northstar canoe, shoes for the kids, or… you know sometime.
