We're in communication with Per, (Owner of Damasteel) and he says the raw material for the DC material is 50% - *80% more expensive than their most popular DS93X. We're waiting on lead time info.
Hi Sal,
Do you have any estimate on what that translates to in terms of street price (or MSRP) on the finished knife?
Thanks for looking into it, and for any other thoughts you can share!

DC18N vs DS93X, of course. I hadn't memorized that the Vanax material goes by DC18N. Thanks guys.

1. First Choice: Bifrost
2. Second Choice: Odin Heim
3. Really don't want: Super Dense twist
Applause goes to @Superfool for trying to keep this from going off the rails. Mission Creep is a real risk and it requires that it be kept in check, lest the whole thing fail. Remember, this is meant as an attractive and affordable user knife for our UK & European friends, not some surrogate for a custom knife.

What is DC material?
The Vanax, basically.
Aaaaaaaaaahhhh.
Nice. Thank you Tom.

Was going to do the count up and the poll tonight.
Then I went for a 9 mile walk and ate cod and chips and am about to carb-coma.
Gonna do a full count up and then sort it tomorrow probably.
Get your votes in folks.
Regards, David.

Heimskringla is my number 1
Sparse Twist is number 2
There isn't really any patter I wouldn't buy

1. Munin
2. Rose
3. Grosserosen
I’ve seen some larger blades in Rose, it almost makes an optical illusion of a rippled surface that looks great.

I agree, but I personally thought it didn't look so hot on smaller blades, so I wen the other way here.

Hi Mike,
Thanx for chiming in. Gail and I are still in lock-down, but we do go out for some things. You have to work, don't you? Have you ever made a Damasteel razor? What pattern if you did.

Hi Sal.
Wondering if you might have hit up the wrong sub with this, as it seems a little out of context.

My apologies for any drift in the thread direction. That's not intended. I support this project wholeheartedly.
Superfool, look to your PMs. I think I shared some basic ideas about patterns and blade profile sizes. For the curious, I recommend a smaller uniform pattern rather than something like the Large Rose. But I like the large patterns too. They won't look good in a small blade. Think of seeing only the top or bottom half of a large rose, not attractive. Plus some of the pattern will be affected by the stock removal process shaping the blade profile. Two factors that should be accounted for in developing this design, IMO.
A very nice feature of Damasteel is that the pattern goes all the way through the billet. It's not superficial, so it will show well no matter the blade grind (flat vs hollow etc.).
I'll leave more crumbs in the straight razor thread.

OK.
I think I am going crazy, partly due to lack of sleep, partly due to being busy as heel at work.
I need someone to check my maths please.

By my count (using your weighting) it is:
6
Aegir
5
Thor
Hakkapella
Bifrost
Bjorkman's Twist
Hugin
4
Odin's Eye
Vinland
Odim Heim
Munin
3
Sparse Twist
2
Dense Twist
1
Gysinge
Ladder
0
Rose
-1
Super Dense Twist
Baldur
-2
Heimskringla
-3
N/A
-4
Grosserosen
I was really surprised to see how polarizing Vinland is. It received the most votes for both "1st choice" as well as "don't want". Interesting result.
Maybe one final poll with just the patterns that scored a 5 or 6 on it?
Aegir
Thor
Hakkapella
Bifrost
Bjorkman's Twist
Hugin

Thanks Fixall.
I have been over this 4 times and I think that was where my final check landed me.
I was starting to go crazy.
Ideally, I wanted to get this down to three choices but the decision is so spread out.

Hmmm....
Bifrost, Bjorkman's Twist, and Hugin all received a score of 5 with no one voting it as their last choice (Thor and Hakkapella also both scored a 5, but also had people selecting it for their least liked pattern). Maybe start there and throw in Aegir since it scored the highest (although it did have one vote as the least liked pattern)?

That or smash a 6 option poll out, followed by a 3.
I am just worried that everyone is going to get fed up doing all these polls.

I think people that truly want this knife don't mind doing polls to get it. I'm sure the process itself and the detractors are frustrating
