If you want to lighten it substantially, buy a Cold Steel 4Max Scout. It makes the C95 look and feel like a Dragonfly.Bolster wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2023 5:48 pmI used to own two C95s but sold the dino jimped one (shredded my thumb) so now have just one. I like it, but it gets a lot of "drawer duty" since it is quite heavy. If a desirable steel made it worth the purchase, maybe! I would hop on the 3V train. Would be nice to have a super tough, big knife. (Though I expect smaller, lighter FRN and FRCP knives would see more of my use.)

LOL, well done! It's all about the contrast effect. The CS4MX is over 10 ounces!!

Re: C95 Manix Sprint
I have been seeing the interest for the C95 as of late, and although I haven’t been seeking one, one came up on BF for sale and I bought it! It’s a CE and original factory edge for 150. Seemed reasonable enough so I pulled the trigger, excited to see how it feels. I am one of the guys that has 3.5” blades as his small knives, but tend to like long and thin… I like the M2XL tho and backlocks are my favorite
Re: C95 Manix Sprint
More than reasonable. I'd say it's a good price ! CE knives might resell for lower prices though, that might explain it. In Europe getting a PE version can quickly become crazy ! Especially in "LNIB" condition.Drubieg wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2023 11:40 amI have been seeing the interest for the C95 as of late, and although I haven’t been seeking one, one came up on BF for sale and I bought it! c95's don't command the high prices many discod spydies do. I paid about the same for my last black scaled c95, also from BF. Got a BNIB sprint for $200 shipped too.
I need to remember to watch the BF exchange for another PE black scaled c95.

V, heck yeah! I want one, you find one of these old dinosaur 's, I want it. So long as it's not broken lol...
It's twice the weight of my Manix2XL with the AWT Scales on it and it has packed around with me all day.
Never a issue once...
Then I am also the guy that edc's a 5" 1911 and two extra mags and I never notice it there unless the darn seat belt latch gets in the way. This setup is right at 5 pounds too. It's my hammer though lol.
But you were right about the old C95, it's an awesome fit in my paw. I am going to need at least one and would prefer two. I can offer you a finders fee if that helps lol...

Ha ! I think that would a marriage in Heaven . If another C95 ever happens steel should be a big jump from the original. C95 needs a steel with its own identity with superb performance. . Dan

I used to be all about the lightweights, but since I switched to EDCing a pistol & spare mag instead of just carrying to overnight security jobs, I don't worry about the ounces as much. Used to shoot for under 4oz for my EDC folder but these days carrying a stock Manix XL or C95 is no problem at all for me.Jeb wrote: ↑Tue Sep 09, 2025 4:07 pmV, heck yeah! I feel like something tough like 3V would be a good fit, but magnamax would definitely create a lot of hype. Imagine if a C95 sprint were spydercos first magnamax folder!Manixguy@1994 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 09, 2025 6:58 pmHa ! I think that would a marriage in Heaven . Re: C95 Manix Sprint
I would bite, just make enough I am not limited to one and only if I can buy it quick enough with the PayPal account I don't do lol...
Heck, I am worried about trying to buy the new red and black Paramilitary 2 MagnaCut blade spyderco is going to run a very limited amount on.
I already gave one of those I made to a local who is a Texas Tech alumni that actually needed the knife, which is what I like to do is gift them, if I don't keep them for my greedy self lol.

Re: C95 Manix Sprint
I've never handled a C95, but if the ergos are different enough from the Manix 2 XL, I'd be willing to get a sprint to try out.

Re: C95 Manix Sprint
Ahh , 3V would be tasty since only the Tuff has used the steel and would be a good choice for the C95 . I think the Magnamax probably is marked model alreay , dare I say a M2 ? It would be a very good choice and like the proposal. Re: C95 Manix Sprint
I even like the different style of thumb jimping they used on this knife, it's very effective. Here is a couple close ups of the jimping.

Re: C95 Manix Sprint
for me the biggest ergonomic differences are the extra width of the C95 and the lack of handle jimping making it more comfortable over all.

I'm a huge fan of both gens for different reasons, but the C95 always felt a little better in my grip. I can get into jimping on the blade but I'm not fond of it on handles.
In fact I modded a seconds Manix XL on my belt sander to remove the jimping all over the liners, and it felt much closer to the original C95 in my grip.

Re: C95 Manix Sprint
V,
Did you do the tiger teeth on the bottom knife blade? That is a killer look. Not seen one done like that but it's awesome looking.
Oh I didn't know that the jimping on the C95 is called Dino jimping either, I like it, thanks for that info as well BenBen.

Re: C95 Manix Sprint
Yes. That was an acid etch I did. Painted stripes on the blade with clear nail polish, then dunked the blade in acid. Ferric Chloride I believe.
Looking at that picture makes me want to try again. Wonder how it'd react on one of my H1 Pacific Salt beaters...

Re: C95 Manix Sprint
I like the lack of handle jimping and a fuller grip. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if they release a sprint in a tough steel like 3V, Cruwear or Magnacut.vivi wrote: ↑Wed Sep 10, 2025 2:54 pmfor me the biggest ergonomic differences are the extra width of the C95 and the lack of handle jimping making it more comfortable over all.

Re: C95 Manix Sprint
V, them are some sick looking tiger teeth you put on that knife, so much so I ordered me the acid etching to try one myself.
I just hope mine comes out half as good as this one of yours. That knife is sick man...
For the situation of the jimping, Dang guys I have to disagree, I really like all the jimping I can get and I have even chewed more on a couple of my knives that didn't have some in the obvious place it was screaming for...
My paws are so hard and crusted over I need the jimping to help dig into my paws to help hang on the knife with them hot, wet, sweaty and sometimes bloody.
The Spyderco Tomahawk I have has the absolute best grip I have ever picked up and used. The Tomahawk is not for everyone but I must say it really has rocked on everything I have used it for.
I carry it in my dually everywhere, you grab it by the handle, trust me when I say you have a paw full lol. I really would love to buy one for each of my trucks.
The D2 steel and the killer scales on the Tomahawk and then the sweeping design on this beast, well it just screams at me everyday "use me" lol. So, more times than not I do.
Except here recently I have been hacking away at the jungle around here with a MagnaMax Mule, which has been harder to use for the hacking, with it much shorter and a lot lighter.

Re: C95 Manix Sprint
I guess I’ll chime in here and say sure, lets get another run going. It is fun to look back all the way to 2019 and see all the comments pointing to 3V steel.
With the latest numbers on 3V looking better than ever, I’m sort of wondering why they haven’t fully committed to it, at least on a few models.
I get that we have S110V and Maxamet for the careful use stuff, but I’m on construction sites all the time and need something that can take a beating.
As long as it’s high performance, having options is preferential.
