Maybe we need a shill-showdown (a shill-down) to determine who the shillingest shill that ever shilled is? And let the true perpetrators of shillery be banned from this forum, and their children, and their children's children...for one month.

I'll make a poll.

(joking, I'm not making a poll.)

Maybe Sal can start a pole on the Sharpening forum thing?

Might be a good thing.

To be fair, I know of only a couple of people who received K2 knives with their names etched by spyderco. One was Ankerson and one was Cliff. I think that in itself is a testament to what Sal thinks of both of them and their tests and opinions. Really they're both polar opposites with equally valuable input and ways to distribute their findings.

Amazing how even a simple question thread can be poisoned. :o

claqueur: noun

a person hired to applaud an act or performer.

the conspiracy does in fact run deep and now you have found us all out. we are shills in exchange for free knives. this word implies we are on spyderco's payroll. :D

Hi Sal,

Yeah..... Well you asked. :D

Looks like people are trying to be honest about their opinions in retrospect to the original question and in doing that takes it kinda back to another topic sorta kinda as it might be related in some ways.

That's the way it looks to me from what I have seen so far based on the posting.

Maybe too soon?

That's what I was driving at in away when I said it was a good idea, just not right now IMO. :)

I think 13,637 can talk about anything knife related (definitely including sharpening) on the same main forum just fine.

Seriously... This is a company forum... If one's reason to log on becomes a lot less about Spyderco and a lot more about an individual's expertise then it might be a sign to visit a more specific sharpening and testing forum.
Seriously - Spyderco began as small sharpening shack selling sharpeners out of a shabby transporter.
Later they turned very successfully to knifes - but still sell sharpening equipment today. So to stick to the book, sharpening is the DNA of Spyderco. Right?
So sharpening Sypderco's knifes (as 99% of buyers need to do once in a while) with Spyderco's equipment is a inherent part of the company and therefor should be covered in all aspects on this very site - at least in my understanding.

Absolutely Brunz.

I don' think we are on the same page though. We aren't talking about the same thing.

You quoted me this:

How about the back benchers who log on for Spyderco get their forum back and the front benchers go and add traffic to his site. Why is Cliff compelled to be so prolific in a private company's forum where there can be conflicts anyway? Not enough traffic on his? He needs more fresh meat, go fellas!

Im sure that the rest if us can talk about sharpening here to our heart's content. It's not the subjects that are divisive.
He posts and generates controversy here to drive traffic to his site, or to put it more generally, to get attention (or do you want to claim that he receives monetary or other benefits in addition?) -- is that what you mean by his "agenda"? And you believe he places this agenda above the good of the Spyderco forum? I'm just looking for a clear definition of this "agenda" that gets thrown around.

What agenda? I do not know if any. Just that he has in one way or another turned off a bunch of otherwise calm guys on this forum.

... And what is yours? What's your motivation?

A healthy controversy can be very productive als long as its run on a cultivated level in which every party is, from different viewpoints, is truly dedicated to help make things better (that what the USA is basically about)

You can analyze and pick it apart all you want Jumbo, kind of reminds me of a Cliff Stamp junior and in that sense take it as a compliment.

Not gonna change people's minds who have spoken up (A lot).

You have used the word "conspiracy", which along with "agenda" has been used many times by forum members in regards to Cliff. I'm looking for someone who can make that into a concrete claim, which apparently you are not willing to. If someone else wants to own up to it, please do, or I suggest stop using it.

You say you're sick of people being turned off by Cliff, thus that's your "agenda". Mine? I'm sick of people popping up to make personal attacks and snide remarks about him while offering no contribution to the topic of those threads. I only see knives from him, not personal attacks, not any other kind of "gain".

You and others disagree with me, that's fine. Seems easy enough to ignore most of his posts. But if you or anyone else wants to keep away his contributions based on an "agenda", then you really need to put up more than "people are getting offended".

Without them - this forum will sink to the usual low-level fanboy sites of a company who's claqueurs show to kind of themselves vice versa theirs.
So Cliff is the shining light in the darkness that is a manufacturer supported fanboy site just here for PR purposes? I see you have joined the war in shills.

Me thinks you still aren't getting it. Nobody is devaluing Cliff's knowledge base or his contributions to our understanding. I have thanked him many times for his willingness to take the time to answer my questions in detail and have certainly learned a lot from him. Maybe just hang out here for a while and stop sticking up for him and maybe you will see what people have a problem with.

I don't think he meant Cliff was the only one with value. A lot of people have value. Some people try to share it more than others. We all like spyderco, right? Without anyone trying to dissect why spyderco knives are good or how to use them to their full potential it'd be a whole lot of "hey man, this knife knife came out and I got it!" "Yeah buddy, me too. It's great!" "Yeah bro, fits my hand well!" "Yeah broheim, it's a real slicer!" "Yeah, dude, the jimping is great!" "Yeah friend, I can't believe this knife is so well done!" "Yeah man, it's buttery smooth!"

While all those are good, it's nice to read, "this knife does this well because of this and this. This sharpening stone works the best for this application of this specific steel. Here's why. And here's the data I have to support my opinion."

Even if it's a little bit of self shilling, there's definite value there.

If that makes you feel better Jumbo.

I also know for a fact that when Cliff is speaking on the matter, he pompously says things like "They think it's a grand conpiracy", and sarcastically say "they think I have this agenda" So it's a two way street.... Matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if people he has PM's with are making these claims also. That's probably the fallback conclusion right?

One correction though: I recall saying "We do not conspire to take down the conspracy"... That doesn't mean that I think there is one... I meant that as a response to Cliff Stamp blaming it all on people THINKING that there is one. As far as agendas go, maybe some do think that he does, but a mojority of those complaining aren't talking about agendas like you and Cliff want...It's his attitude.

Like I said, if you do no understand now you never will. That's enough out of me for you Jumbo.

After posting examples of personal attacks against Cliff, I decided, the best I can do is flag these. Which I did, and removed my post.

After that came the claims of conspiracy and collusion from you and another poster. (Or were you actually curious about the weather in all of Canada? I suppose I misread your honest question.) I have only asked for you or someone else to make explicit your own vague claims.

If you want to retract that, that's great. I'll stick to just flagging personal attacks and anything else outside of forum rules.
