Does anyone know how the seconds or blemishes are handled? I know they normally offer these at a discount, but I did not see any link this morning. Is this something that usually comes forward later, or was the team just that good and they are all pristine? I want another for a user and to try my hand at a custom scale job but would be fine with a blem.

There's a sticky threadPhilo Beddoe wrote:How do you check the quantities remaining?

Please also avoid needlessly entering random/high quantities into a cart for either item to try and determine how many are left. We do not load the full inventory into the site system. The number of people doing that though is phenomenal and it is taking resources away from people trying to order.
We respectfully ask, if you have successfully placed your order please do not try to put any quantity in your cart to determine how many are left. "

Those are typically all sold at the SFO outlet sale which happens once a year, I believe towards the end of each year. Note that this is not an online sale, it is only in-person sales at the SFO physical store.dgebler wrote:Does anyone know how the seconds or blemishes are handled? I think I recall reading that corrosion resistance is about par with M4, but I could be wrong.
EDIT: Found it in post #57 in this thread on another forum - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showt ... tary/page3

It is super wear resistant ...way more than s90 but the big difference is toughness. It is much tougher than 10v or the high vanadium stainless. Corrosion is about like M4.

Yep, *typically* the 2nds are sold at the SFO, but they haven't had the sale every year - they did last year but not the year before. And *some* models have been sold directly through the store online - such as the Bushcraft UK, which had some problems with the initial run, the wood scales were subject to cracking. So they also offered the option of buying the blanks, without scales.salimoneus wrote:Those are typically all sold at the SFO outlet sale which happens once a year, I believe towards the end of each year. I do remember one of the Mule Team series that had a higher number of blemishes, that were sold for a bit of a discount at around the same time as the regular ones were, but I don't remember *which* mule.
Which Knife, A or B? get Both! (and C, D and E) :)
It was the previous Mule - CTS-XHP. They were $10 cheaper than the non-blems.rodloos wrote:Yep, *typically* the 2nds are sold at the SFO, but they haven't had the sale every year - they did last year but not the year before. Not all those who wander are lost - J.R.R.T.
I would guess "maybe" a few more days?
They show 182 left at this time.
Thats fast! But these often slow after the 1st day.
I grabbed (2) with the Forum knives this morning.
I pick up Mules in the steels I want. Not all of them, just the ones I think are special.
M4, S90v, zdp189, Super Blue, SS Damascus, etc.
If you buy two, its free shipping. :)
I am sure these will go fast (unlike some than linger for months)
Just my best guess.

More S90v & CF please.......

I am curious about this k390 as elaborated by Spyderco. I almost bought a *correction* not K390, but M390 from Benchmade in a folding assisted opening knife last week, but instead bought the N5/G10/s110v forum buy knife instead. Mostly b/c I think Spyderco will temper it better (the Kershaw s110v was very poorly executed in 2010), but also because I don't like assisted openers for some person quirk reason. I don't need the assistance, thank you very much, and unassited spydercos open just as fast.
Now, I am still interested in this K390, just to have another exotic steel, and I figure I can chop small amounts of veggies in the kitchen with it.
However, I can also get a Rockwell 66 6" utility knife in zpd-89 (which Miyabi calls Micro Carbide) knife from the zwilling Japanese factory labeled Miyabe 7000MC, for about $100.
So, if you had to have only one additional exotic steel, would you get Japanese zdp-89 aka MC, or this k390 mule, for a kitchen utility knife (very small in the case of the Mule, and larger in the case of the Miyabi 7000MC)?
*correction above... I had written K390 when it actually was M390... a completely different animal*

I don't think I would opt for either of those steels for a kitchen knife. I know first hand that ZDP-189 (assuming that is what you meant) does stain fairly easily, and if the K390 is supposed to be close to M4 in rust resistance, it probably wouldn't fair too well either. I would look for something with more stainless properties for a kitchen application such as VG-10. I'm sure either would work well if properly maintained and kept clean/oiled, but the level of maintenance would certainly be higher for the less stainless steels.DunninLA wrote:I am curious about this k390 as elaborated by Spyderco. With earlier Mules, they have definitely not loaded the full inventory on the website up front, so it's possible that there are hundreds still in shadow inventory. Not guaranteeing that, but it's possible. :)MCM wrote:I would guess "maybe" a few more days?
