Question on the clip: is it chrome or nickel plated, or was it simply polished natural metal?

The first steps are done however as I've rounded all corners and acid etched it.

Thanks, I may try that with my black clip from a Chokwe. I assume drilling the second hole was not too bad, I have drilled liners before. I tried making a Ti clip for mine, not happy with it so far, but I will get back to it. For now, I just rounded the stock clip and took some shine away.

Just curious, What is it that most of you arnt likeing about the clip.

The comments I'm getting the most is

Doesnt match frame, aka not titanium
The tip is a little sharp.

Would love to here if thats how you feel as well.
For me, the tip is a bit too sharp, and I prefer deep carry.
Brad S. wrote:If you bend that clip over a little bit, off the lockbar it will slide in and out of your pocket a little eaiser. Sometimes if the clip is right above the lock relief like that, the seam of your pants can catch inside the lockbar as you withdraw the knife. On a clip with high tension it can practically get stuck!
Thanks, I've noticed that problem. The only downside, though, is because there is only one screw holding the clip on there is a lot more wiggling that can happen. With the original position, the clip is kept firmly in its position.

Here's the alternate position:

I like the clip, but the tip is a bit sharp, and it could be a bit less shiny, IMO. But I don't mind the finish of the clip. It compliments the blade and screws.

This is an outstanding knife overall. I haven't been this unexpectedly pleased with a new knife in a while.

Hey All, OK... so I pulled the trigger and grabbed the Southard Flipper. The Crew did an Awesome job on this model and it is impressive except for one minor issue.

Earlier today I reached to grab the folder from my pocket and felt a slight jab on the tip of my finger??? When I pulled the knife from my pocket, I noticed that the very tip of the blade is really close to the butt end of the handle just short of protruding out. Not a big deal, but a possibility of drawing some blood if someone with smaller fingers happens to accidentally get their finger in that area.

Like I said, it's not a big deal. I'm sure it won't be long until Brad will be asked to make a custom back spacer for this model, which would probably cure this problem ;) . Anyway here's some pics to show what I'm talking about...

That's one of the great things about this knife. The blade is enormous compared to the handle. It is a 0.77 Edge:Closed ratio which is spectacular, but it means that the tip is going to get really close to the end of the handle!

Hey, Raven, you're absolutely right: there is definitely a slight potential for drawing blood. Ouch!

Mine arrived today. It has excellent fit and finish, came super sharp, and just plain feels expensive. The tip does seem to ride very near the end when closed and although I can understand the reasoning behind the apprehension, I don't see it being an issue for me. The clip is the only part I don't particularly care for, as it deserves one in Ti to match the rest of the first class materials. Nice work on this one Brad, Spyderco, and Taiwan knife makers!
