sweet - thanks!

I know this is probably way too early to tell - but the future titanium versions - are they going to be full titanium scales or are they going to be half titanium and half something else like g10?

Full Titanium scales with the designs on both sides. This makes them truly ambi.

I say go for it. Plain titanium is nice but doesn't offer much in the realm of individuality or grip. A nice design can do both.

Wasn't crazy about the fluted star burst design on the ti Native V, although it might look better if it wasn't shiny. The fluting on the Military looked a lot nicer to me. There was a ti Spyderco in one of the videos, can't for the life of me remember which, with a design that looked almost like the old volcano grip FRN. I thought that looked really good.

One last question for Sal, can the CF Chaparral be fully disassembled or are there some pins hiding under that CF?

The Tuff perhaps? It had some odd texturing on the scales.

The Tuff's texturing was about the only thing that appealed to me. I have no use for a tank like that, but I think it would be a good texture on the Chapparal. No smooth Ti for me thanks.

So, I'm taking a closer look at the photo of the Chaparral on the first page, and I'm wondering: is the blade really a lot shorter than the handle, or is that an optical illusion?

It helps to get a better idea of the ratio if you look at the pivot screw as the center dividing line of the knife, rather than the blade tang. It looks like about the same blade to handle ratio as the Sage series to me.

PS-looking at it again, i think the camera angle exaggerates it as well.

I'm all for unusual just not a fan of most designs or graphics on titanium scales, I would love an enlay like micarta or some light colored wood. Or the flamed type titanium like on some striders, but with your own spyderco touch of cOurse! I'm sure anything you guys come up with we will love

I'm pretty sure it's camera angle making the handle look longer and the blade look shorter in that photo. If you look at this video, the coverage of the Chaparral starts at about the 55 second mark and the blade to handle ratio looks much like that of the Sage.

I personally thought the fluting on the Native 5 proto made the knife look cheaper and gimmicky. Spyderco tends to take a less is more approach to their design and I'd agree with this sentiment for possible designs on the Ti scales.

I'd say that a small pattern that aids in grip is best, because it lets the material shine through as a design feature instead of a pattern that may or may not actually be liked by potential customers. The overall design of the knife should be the first read, followed by second reads like textures and patterns, followed by third reads like logos and engravings.

Often times very intricate or bold patterns are polarizing, creating a love/hate that is very hard to judge and often risky.

Sorry to disagree, but I'm all for some sort of design on the side. At the very least, since there are two Ti ones, maybe one with a design and the other without?

Not a fan of the shiny look. If it was bead blasted to a matte finish or flame-finished like the fluted Millie, I'd be much more excited. Guess I could always bead blast and flame-finish it myself.

For those who haven't seen the video of the Tuff, this checkering is the texture I think would look the best on one of the titanium Chaparrals. Something along the lines of the artwork on the Dragonfly Tattoo might work for the other one.
