thanks to Bohica.

From a USN thread asking about the possibility of another run of the Matriarch:

Quote:
We can do a Matriarch blade in an Endura4 or Delica4 package. It would have to be a sprint run.

I would like to have more information on what would be of interest. Assuming a Gen4 handle and VG-10 blade steel?

More from Sal on British Blades regarding the UKPK:

"...Regarding the price of a UK, we have finished a new mold for an FRN UKPK. It is a USA made mold, GIN-1 blade steel that is slightly thinner (.100), and a retail MSRP of about $50-$60.

The goal is to make up in volume what we lose in the lower margin, but still make a quality product in the USA that most can afford. I've been EDC'ing a prototype for the past few months and have come to appreciate the model quite a bit. It's solid, light, reliable, highly functional, affordable enough that everyone should be able to have one if they want one. It's also going to be available in a few colors, with other colors added in the future. Leaf blade, drop point and Lambsfoot available.

sal"

AND...

"The first run will include:

Gray - maroon - dark blue

with the serrated Lambsfoot in orange.

But the future is open.

Yet more on British Blades regarding a Slipit-type multi-tool concept:

Hi Dagon, That & a few other tools.

Our first experiment is a 2 blade model using the "Urban" pattern. The 2nd blade is to include a cap lifter, a screw-driver/pry bar tip and a ??????>

Hi Blerv, thanks for maintaining this list for us. I'm a relatively new poster on this forum but have been a Spyderco owner and user for about 15yrs now.
I was wondering if there's been any news on a new Caly now that the current version is being discontinued? I'm debating whether to get one now but would prefer to wait if a new version is not pinned but has screws for disassembly and cleaning.

Hey NaturalMystic welcome to the forum and thanks.

Sal has made mention to the possible future for the Caly series. I'll update with more accurate info and links tomorrow. They seem to still be gauging economic feasibility and materials. Chance of a longer blade and natural scales (wood) and I think screwed. Once again, better details tomorrow when I'm off my phone. :)

Maybe I can help with this. Here's a partial quote from Sal that covers screw construction:
sal wrote:The Caly is a very narrow (top to bottom) gentleman's model. It is this narrow pattern that is much of the appeal to the design. Keeping it narrow has certain requirements;

1. Not enough room for screw construction other than for the pivot.
2. Not enough room for a deep finger choil.

We can make the model wider, but that's why we have the Sage series. Wider than the Caly, but narrower than the Native.

We do have a design for a 3.5" blade Caly (89mm). (It really wouldn't be a "4" because it is a different blade size). Longer than the Caly, but shorter than the full sized Calypso.
There is a whole thread on the Caly4 here and Sal's thoughts from that thread (including the above segment and more) can be found here. Hope this helps.

Thanks gents. I'll read up on those posts. It looks like screw construction isn't an option with the current design so I may be making a purchase soon. Now I just have to decide on CF or G10 scales. Any suggestions? How does the CF feel in hand compared to the textured G10? Which has better grip, durability, etc? I don't have any CF scaled knives but just picked up the G10 Dragonfly and it's awesome. The finger choils and jimping on it is what has me looking at the Caly again. I was originally thinking of getting one of the G10 Delicas.

Thanks Jabba359! I'll update the front page too with that.

I can't comment on the G10 but my CF one is very smooth in and out of the pocket. It's seemingly more slanted towards "gents folder" and while isn't glossy slick it doesn't give a ton of grip. Luckily the Caly3 has great ergonomics to back it up so it's not nearly as bad as some knives in CF.

I'll have to dig up the list but it seems the only one on the chopping block is the G10 model. My best suggestion would be to get that one and see how you feel about it. If you feel it a bit rough or want a dressier version you should be able to get rid of it quite easily down the road. My guess is you won't find a flaw and if anything you might want to pick up another in CF :) .

Also, check out the Sage 1 & 2. All screwed construction and S30v with a deeper choil but it's a little wider and longer.

I think I'll go with the G10 which I was leaning towards anyway. The fact that it's that version that's being disco'd I'll definitely get it before it's gone. Your comment about the CF being a bit smoother was the nail in the coffin. I like a grippier texture on my knife handles and as I mentioned before, love the feel of my Dragonfly in G10.
I've seen the Sage II. Someone somewhere had posted a side by side with the G10 Urban, G10 Caly 3 and the CF Sage, and the Sage seems bigger than I need. I don't like big folders (nothing bigger than Delica/Caly/Benchmade Mini Griptilian size). Living in a big conservative, metropolitan city like Toronto I don't feel comfortable carrying, or the need to carry such a big knife on me. Hence the reason I've been EDCing the D'fly and using the Delica4, Mini Grip (and a Huntsman SAK and Leatherman Wave) as my in-bag EDC backups. Anything bigger I'll just carry one of my fixed blades in bag.

Thanks again for your insight and have a great night!

Hi Roger.

It's new for Spyderco. We tried to match the texture of G-10 on the FRN UKPK.
