Well, there have certainly been qhite a few suggestions. And very fine suggestions that would make beautiful knives. Unfortunately we're only talking about 200 - 300 knives for forumites and 200 available to collectors....500 total.
Anything that requires special tooling is not practical. I am not opposed to making a special knife for the forumites, but I'm not going to be able to convince accounting that we should lose money on the project.
No new tooling means that all we can really do is change the color of an existing model and engrave something on the blade. inlays become a problem. Special colors in G10 become a problem in that large volumes of material must be purchased.
We can do neat stuff if we make 1200 to 2000 pieces, but the forum won't support that kind of volume.
If we really want to pull this off, might I suggest the following; A model like the Vesuvius, (made in Golden) silver bug model.
Pick an odd color. We'll make 500, 200 for our collectors and 300 will be engraved for the forumites. Something like "Spyderco forum model 2002".
If we want too much for too little, it becomes a burden to produce.
Please let me know your thoughts.

I don't have a Vesuvius yet. The color doesn't matter as long as it's not black. I'll take one.

Hey Sal.
I think the Vesuvius would make a great forum model, been looking for a reason to try a compression lock.
Any colour would do for me as long as it wasn't a sheeple friendly guady colour (luminous pink)

Sounds good to me Sal. I like the look of the "bug" Vesuvius much better than the original pearl inlay. My vote would be for burgundy scales like the prototype Calypso Jr. I only hope the Aussie dollar goes back up in time for me to be able to afford to buy one .

I was planning to get a Vesuvius with the inlay anyway, so this would be ideal.
I don't really prefer another "dark" color scale. So I am for either Gray FRN, White (if there is such a thing), Bright Yellow (like the Boker Gemini Outfitter) or Red.
Please no Blue, Green or Brown - these have been done to death. (Ok, maybe a blue like the BladeForums Blue Native G-10 would be ok).
Engraving - my least favorite part of the BF Native is the GIGANTIC logo on the side of the blade that faces right hand users - Benchmade puts their KOTM info on the reverse side, so you don't have to look at it if you don't want to.
Just a few thoughts.

That sounds like a great idea.
How about a Red, White, and blue inlay bug inlay?

I'll get one, prefer a non-black, non-OD green,
otherwise I'll go with the consensus.

I like the vesuvius idea. How about a royal blue handle with a silver "bug" inlay, in a plain edge. But put me down for whatever is produced.

I was thinking that white (or ivory) might be nice, but I see Ken has beaten me to it. I have a feeling that, for a gentleman's knife like the Vesuvius, white with a silver bug might look very classy. Of course it would also need a silver clip.

I vote for the Vesuvius, silver bug model.
I love the idea of WHITE FRN and a silver clip.
Would the blade steel remain ATS-34, or could it be bumped up to VG-10?
Plain (preferred), 50/50 or spyder-edge.
