The Yen is not doing great against the USD. People seem to forget that companies still need to make money and adapt as outside influences like exchange rates and inflation impact operating costs.

If you don't like the price, don't buy it. :eye-roll
Vote with your wallet; lack of demand will drive future pricing decisions.

I can almost guarantee most of us don't need that shiny new piece of steel to survive. These are extremely first world problems.

The price is higher because BHQ knows that Lums are in high demand and will sell out at a higher price. This one also has a coated blade.

It's my opinion that Spyderco should keep it in standard production.

Ok here's a shot from their InstaG. It IS actually Olive Drab.

That blade looks hollow ground in the photo but the Blade HQ listing says flat ground. Does anyone know which it is?

Kind breakfast bars went from $2.50 a pack to $4.99. Generic marina went from 89¢ to $1.49. 16oz sliced honey ham was $3.99 now it's $7.99.

Not wild about the prices of some Spydercos, but at least they haven't doubled in price like a lot of food products have.

That said, I've always had a $200 and under rule when it comes to knives, and I'm wary of how fast we are approaching the point where I have to decide if I want to keep adhering to that, or keep being a Spyderco fan. Going to be awfully difficult to do both.
May you find peace in this life and the next.

Eggs have gone from $.89/dozen to $2.49... some things have more than doubled.

I also have the $200 rule, basically as much as I can stomach if I lose a knife. Only lost one in 20 years but it still hurt.

Well it IS affecting the cost of everything. If I remeber correctly part of the issue with Japanese G-10 knives is a lack of a domestic supply of G-10 in Japan. It must be shipped there and shipped back, as well as certain steels. This combined with inflation of the cost of materials and shipping makes Seki G-10 knives more expensive than Golden knives like the Manix. Which is why trying to compare the cost of Seki and Golden knives is a bad comparison, you aren't accounting for cost of manufacturing by a factory that doesn't belong to Spyderco like Golden does, import/export costs, and shipping. Potentially material gets shipped to Golden, then Seki, back to Golden, out to dealers, then to you.

What really hurts is when inflation goes down and prices stay the same. The higher prices become the new normal.

That is how inflation works. If inflation goes down to 0% that means the prices with stay the same, the "new normal". If you are taking about deflation, below 0%, there has been no major deflationary period in the US in almost 100 years, right around the Depression. The US Federal Reserve tries to keep inflation around 2% which is considered healthy for the economy by a lot of people smarter than me.

If inflation is positive prices rise, if inflation is at or near 0% prices stay the same and if they are negative then then go down but again it's been almost 100 years since they have been negative.

Deflation sounds great, it means lower prices but if you break it down it is not a good thing. Two main things will cause deflation:

1. Too much supply of goods - this means people are not buying or can't buy enough goods. Companies will go out of business as they can't sell their goods for a profit and people will lose jobs. When people lose jobs, it will lower demand for goods making the cycle worse.

2. Too little demand - Consumers can't afford goods due to job lost, low wages, etc. Companies will have to lower prices just to move goods hope to stay in business if they are lucky. This will lead to job loss... lowering demand and making the cycle worse.

This is over simplified, but my point is a little inflation can be good, just not where we are now. Don't wish for lower prices unless you want to go back to a time period like the Depression.

THINK LONG AND HARD WHEN YOU VOTE.

Inflation was all avoidable...
I did not want to sound too political, but it can be hard when talking about money and the economy.

Knife prices will stay higher because the alternative is deflation which is worse.

MSRP of $430 for a liner lock. Street price is more than an Emerson liner lock at full price. Pretty steep cost will likely sideline me but it's an iconic design for sure.
FWIW my last Emerson purchase cost well over $300
So you bought a Super? They're the only ones available that could possibly be considered "well over" and I still think this knife is overpriced. That's my opinion and I spend a ton of money on Spydercos, just ask my wife.
