Oh boy...Another rabbit hole...I just sent an email inquiring about the Mytuko Cobalt. Might as well pick up the Mytuko Mini Cobalt to save on shipping while I am at it. Thanks for the intro to Wilkins, mattman. From what I see and read so far, the SO is going to like these kitchen knives...mattman wrote:Pretty sure those are Wilkins Grips...

Since folks are showing their Jazzlica G10 and Micarta handle mods here, there better certainly be a pic of a Casey Lynch titanium-handled one

Re: OK, it's time to get serious
"Need" a new knife for package opening at my house and breaking down the occasional box/helping with groceries. I've decided the wharncliffe delica is a solid option. Only decision is PE or SE. I am more of a PE guy in general, only own one SE, a ladybug in H1. For my above purposes, which should I get? Part of me thinks SE will do better on boxes and such, but part of me thinks just more spots for tape to get gunked up in. Thoughts?
EDIT: Just saw Jazz' thread on SE lol. Sifting through now

^ Nothing wrong with SE but I like PE better for general use.
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!
Re: OK, it's time to get serious
If you get it in PE it will work great for most things and you will be able to use for more things than if you get a SE imho...

Re: OK, it's time to get serious
I would highly recommend plain edge (unless you really want to try SE. These are shallow serrations).I say PE is Better on cardboard. I don't care what others say. I cut lots of it. This knife is so good at this type of work, I still really enjoy cutting with it. Plastic banding is no problem. VG 10 is great steel. Sharpen at 15° per side and you'll love it. You're right about tape gunk. A little veggie oil rubbed on it takes it off, by the way, and is food safe.JerryIsAlive wrote:For my above purposes, which should I get? I'm telling you, this is a well used and loved Spydie home for a cleaning and touch up. I usually touch up at work on ceramic dish bottoms and cardboard, but felt like taking it home for some reason.

Jazz,
With bellied knife, if tip or areas below it dulls, usually I sharpen only those plus some blending in.
With a wharncliffe, there's not much choice but to do the whole length to preserve the straight edge. Do you see it as a problem? I fixed my Atlantic wharncliffe when some areas near tip rolled when hitting stones accidentally, and it required to do full length.

I don't let them get too dull, so I touch up on fine stones. This doesn't remove much metal, so I don't see it as a problem. I also don't obsess over the tip being perfectly sharp and pointy, because it gets a lot of use and doesn't stay that way long anyway. I just use it, steel it a lot between touch ups, and touch up.anagarika wrote:Jazz,

Following up on this, the SO absolutely loves the Mytuko Cobalt and the Mytuko Mini Cobalt :)adamlau wrote:Oh boy...Another rabbit hole...I just sent an email inquiring about the Mytuko Cobalt. The canvas micarta handles feel soft in the hand. Lightweight kitchen cutter/chopper around 0.0185 behind the edge...

Re: OK, it's time to get serious
Are there plans to make this in different colored handles? Not asking about potential sprints with different steels, just different color handles. Want this knife but would hate to buy it just for another flavor to come out soon. This in blue or green would be perfect so it's easy to spot around the house lol

We're watching sales and the market before we make any future plans.

Stupid photobucket wrecking the history in this thread... anyway, I'm wondering how all y'all are liking your Delica wharnies. Haven't heard much about them lately. Mine is still very much perfect doing what it was designed to do, every day at work. I let a guy borrow it the other day, but only after I asked him what he was cutting. He commented it sure was a sharp sucker.
- best wishes, Jazz.

Jazz they've wrecked the internet. It's Photogeddon 2017.
I haven't bought a Delica wharnie yet because the handle is a no go for me. Been thinking about maybe having some scales made or something but there are too many other knives on the list for that right now.
