....
Can´t recall if you ever had a Chaparral LW, but you might know how extremely positive I feel about the whole platform itself and what one generally gets with this knife:
The extremely solid built, the superslim carry with still good and especially "locked in" ergos", the amazing backlock with its stop pin, the great blade - to handle ratio and (for a knife with choil) also edge to handle ratio (much better than let´s say on a DFly or Delica), the 2mm, slicey but still strong blade and tip , the Taichung fit and finish...
I personally would take a Chap over let´s say a Native 5 (they are pretty close in edge length) any day of the week.
Now THIS thing with serrations is something I´ve been dreaming about for quite some time - so cool that now it actually gets made!
I am sure you´d love it in SE.
No haven't owned one yet but it's always been on my radar, but always got passed over for other models. Even now and even though they're not very similar I wonder if I'd carry one over my Bodacious or a SE Bodacious. But, I am very interested in the style of serrations they're using, they look amazing and I already know how good a thin SE is from my Z-Cut and ARK so I don't think there would be a lot of surprises with this one for me, I'm pretty confident that I'd love it. Typically I don't have a lot of knives on my purchase list but I've bought more in the last couple months than I have in probably 2 years so I'm trying to pace myself and get to know what I've bought before moving on.
No, I don´t think you´d carry a Chap SE over a Bodacious (SE). Even I would not, as much as I love the Chap - just cause a larger folder with Bodacious / Endura cutting edge length and a longer handle imo is clearly more versatile for general EDC.
As a more "specialized", "niche" folder I think the Chap is hard to beat though, and now even more so since it comes with teeth.
My PE version is a perfect, iwb running knife (others might feel differently cause the XHP is probably not the first choice for being exposed to sweat) and got only replaced by the Salt 2 SE cause the Chap did offer no SE version till lately.
It is also great for smaller projects at home where I often grab the Chap due to its thin, but strong super-slicey blade.
And the Chap is a really nice companion to a larger (fixed blade) knife - especially in the outdoors, where it performs so well in those smaller, quick "camp and bushcraft" tasks, where a larger fixed blade might not be necessary or even more unwieldy and just not as good as a pure slicer.
There is a reason why my Chap to me is my "little bushcraft claw", and it can absolutely can take harder use.
Now in SE it will be even better to complement a larger PE fixed blade...
And its unique combo of "superthin but superstrong", its (relative!) "heaviness" for the overall dimensions is just a joy to experience in use.
/ I still REALLY wish they came up with a Chap XL (
