You should have jumped on them when they were $90 last week. As far as Spyderco’s go they’re pretty cheap, but at $90 they’re a great buy.

I generally prefer SE but I’ve been carrying the PE Chap so long that I’m curious if the SE version will win out or not. It certainly slices.

You guys are killing me, I've bought too many knives lately but this is the last major one on my radar unless/until a Bodacious variant pops up.
It's like a gentleman's SE Caribbean.... ;)

....

Can´t recall if you ever had a Chaparral LW, but you might know how extremely positive I feel about the whole platform itself and what one generally gets with this knife:
The extremely solid built, the superslim carry with still good and especially "locked in" ergos", the amazing backlock with its stop pin, the great blade - to handle ratio and (for a knife with choil) also edge to handle ratio (much better than let´s say on a DFly or Delica), the 2mm, slicey but still strong blade and tip , the Taichung fit and finish...
I personally would take a Chap over let´s say a Native 5 (they are pretty close in edge length) any day of the week.

Now THIS thing with serrations is something I´ve been dreaming about for quite some time - so cool that now it actually gets made!
I am sure you´d love it in SE.
No haven't owned one yet but it's always been on my radar, but always got passed over for other models. Even now and even though they're not very similar I wonder if I'd carry one over my Bodacious or a SE Bodacious. But, I am very interested in the style of serrations they're using, they look amazing and I already know how good a thin SE is from my Z-Cut and ARK so I don't think there would be a lot of surprises with this one for me, I'm pretty confident that I'd love it. Typically I don't have a lot of knives on my purchase list but I've bought more in the last couple months than I have in probably 2 years so I'm trying to pace myself and get to know what I've bought before moving on.
No, I don´t think you´d carry a Chap SE over a Bodacious (SE). Even I would not, as much as I love the Chap - just cause a larger folder with Bodacious / Endura cutting edge length and a longer handle imo is clearly more versatile for general EDC.

As a more "specialized", "niche" folder I think the Chap is hard to beat though, and now even more so since it comes with teeth.

My PE version is a perfect, iwb running knife (others might feel differently cause the XHP is probably not the first choice for being exposed to sweat) and got only replaced by the Salt 2 SE cause the Chap did offer no SE version till lately.

It is also great for smaller projects at home where I often grab the Chap due to its thin, but strong super-slicey blade.

And the Chap is a really nice companion to a larger (fixed blade) knife - especially in the outdoors, where it performs so well in those smaller, quick "camp and bushcraft" tasks, where a larger fixed blade might not be necessary or even more unwieldy and just not as good as a pure slicer.
There is a reason why my Chap to me is my "little bushcraft claw", and it can absolutely can take harder use.
Now in SE it will be even better to complement a larger PE fixed blade...

And its unique combo of "superthin but superstrong", its (relative!) "heaviness" for the overall dimensions is just a joy to experience in use.

/ I still REALLY wish they came up with a Chap XL (viewtopic.php?p=1377379#p1377379), such a model could very well become my main EDC, especially in SE...
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10), Chaparral SE (CTS XHP)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)

Yep, first time I’ve bought an exact duplicate of a knife I already have. CS had a bunch of flash sales on Spydies that were the best prices I’ve seen.

Yeah. We'll end up getting one anyway and paying more, most likely.

These are my two FRN Chaps with some polished RC Bladeworks Micarta scales. These were fun to put together. The only issue was the stock clip screws were too short to capture the clips in the thicker RCBW scales. Thankfully I had other Taichung knives that I was able to swap longer clip screws with (and the Chap screws were long enough to work on the other knives). I really like how these turned out and they are great office carry knives. Cheers, Radioactive

Right now I'm really torn between this and a Rex 121 Sage, and I must confess I just caved on another Microtech release a couple days ago lol.

Happened to come across this old comparison pic, thought I could post it for those who are not familiar with the Chap and perhaps thinking about getting one.
What can be seen: When using the choil, the Chap offers more actual grip area than a Manix behind the choil.
Pretty good imo for the small, closed footprint and the almost-Native-cutting edge length...

(In quite some (though not all of course) aspects the Chap reminds of an in-every-dimension-downsized Manix anyway...)

I absolutely love my Chap SE LW. It’s pretty much ousted everything else from my pocket when I’m at home. My only minor complaint is I really hate the colour grey, although having seen those RCBW scales earlier in the thread that might not be an issue for much longer 🎉

It also occurs to me as I write this that there’s nothing stopping me from just rit dying the FRN ones 🤦🏼‍♂️

😂 I didn’t need any encouragement but you’ve just pushed me over the edge. Now I’m walking around trying to remember where on earth I stored my black RIT dye.

I’m excited for you Gernot - it is a fantastic knife, genuinely wonderful and cuts way beyond its size might suggest with the beautiful wavy Taichung SE.

As for the signature… give me 2 minutes 😉
