CRK just put everything up by $50 and even includes those a year into a 2 year waiting list. (No one saw that coming)
wow. that's not okay.
eta: i have seen spyderco raise prices of revealed knives that haven't been released before the annual price increase, but i can't imagine them ever doing something like this.

I'm still going to stay on the list for a Backpacker . . . but who knows what the price may be in 18-24 months when the knife is finally ready.

I don't know Sal aside from seeing him on some youtube videos and his posts on the forums. I don't put him on a pedestal. However I still respect what he has done in the industry and the empire he has built. As a business owner myself I know how difficult it is to operate a business. Warehouse rent, wages, taxes, price increases and all the miscellaneous fee's that go on behind closed doors. We open a business with the intention to make a profit and a comfortable living for ourselves and our loved ones and employees. Those of you that have complained on this thread don't understand how difficult it is when your supplier jacks up our product cost from 35% up to 40%. We can't just absorb the additional costs. Stopping the prints of catalogues are hardly gonna make an impact or changes in the business when its needed for knifeshows and tradeshows ect. imagine going to a tradeshow and having no literature to take home. Life would be boring.
If there is a price increase. guess what!! The customer is gonna have to eat the cost. Like someone said earlier. Vote with your wallet. If you cant afford it use the filters and sort from low to high like someone mentioned earlier. Buy what you can afford avoid what you can't. Or ask the boss for a wage increase, find a new job that pays more, work an extra job to fund the hobby, buy less junk at the grocery store. There is so many things a consumer can do to absorb the normal price increases. Why put all the blame on Sal. Don't tell or teach a man how to operate his business.

To put it in perspective, CRK raised prices ~12% after not having had a price increase for 4-5 years, during which time the inflationary price level increase was ~15%. Even after their price hike, the real price of a e.g. large PJ Sebenza has decreased since 2017. Not sure how they manage that, I guess some more increases are in store going forward.

Yep, my first Millie, Police 3 and C95 Manix were all in the $110-129 range. The Manix 2, Yojimbo 2 and Para 2 made waves for launching under $100 street price.
At least in my case my wages have kept up with the price increase of Spydies.

The inflation sucks, but we know what we are buying and who we are buying it from, and who will take care of us.
This!
This!!
All fiat currencies lose their value and trend towards zero value over time.
Buy tangible goods like Spydies as a store of value!

On one hand Spyderco wants us informed with the reveal catalogs, so we can be ready to open our wallets and buy new models. They don't want us to be caught off guard with lacking funds. They want us informed months in advance when it comes to giving them money.
On the other hand
Spyderco does not want to help us know ahead of time about price increases, which would help us better plan ahead with our wallets. No warning is afforded to us in these cases. It appears very intentional how they don't seem to respond to questions asking about yearly price increases in past years. They seem to prefer to wait until the last minute to tell us the bad news when it comes to our money in this case.
It's a one way street of who spyderco is looking out for when it comes to money/profit. At least that's how it appears to me. I realize that nearly every company only cares about themselves at the end of the day.
My frustration around this is how spyderco claims so loudly to have such high integrity, so I would assume they would be more transparent with things that relate to looking out for their customers ability to make more informed decisions. Foolish thinking, I guess.
They are a for-profit company. They will optimize their ability to make money where possible. What kind of relationship do you expect to have?
Having a strategy to grow business and having integrity are not mutually exclusive.

It’s been eye-opening selling my knives lately. A Benchmade 710HSSR that I bought for $113 nearly 20 years ago just sold on eBay for $360. eBay got their cut of course, but dang.
My price tolerance for knives is around $200 for a top of the line Golden Spyderco. We’re past that for my favorite models now. I was really interested in the Siren until I saw the last price increase was $190, that quashed it cold. I’m pondering it now that it’s on the disco list. But going forward as costs of my other hobbies have gone up, groceries for my family have gone up, etc. I will enjoy what I have and be exploring the Seki line more. A recent Pac Salt has me all but convinced a VG10 Endura is all the EDC I’ll ever need. My K390 Ladybug still impresses the heck out of me. Good stuff can be had without breaking the bank.
The price increase I’m about to eat on the new canoe is brutal… (resins and composites have shot through the roof, and the diesel to move em as well) but I can do a lot more with my family with a canoe, and nearly any knife I have now will do the job I need of my folders.
It’s just an if-then matrix that adjusts itself constantly. I love me a Military, but how ‘bout that wharnie Cliff Jumper?

I think a focus on more S35VN models out of China would be a good move given the rising costs. Those knives are excellent values and very competitive with others in the range. A $200 Spyderco has a lot of price competition with other makers for quality, fit and finish that a $100 Chinese Spyderco doesn’t.

In my opinion, that is the absolute wrong way to go. Stop all production in China is the right direction. No matter the price, I won’t buy chinese made anything if there is
any other option.

It is an artificially created un-level playing field designed to get all production of every item moved to a certain place. If we cannot see the problems in that, then we deserve what we get.

I think COO is pretty much Sal's call. I trust his judgement and so far have not been disappointed with any Chinese made Spyderco. Quite the contrary. I've actually been much impressed.

Same here. It's frustrating, for how many items, there is no other option. Fortunately for Spydercos, there are lots of non-China options!

My MIL reminds me she had to carry water from a pitcher pump well to the house. So yeah, things change. The amount of change in the last century is astounding!
