Thanks for the comparison with the Byrd Hawkbill ! It is totally dwarfed by the Resilience.
I really am interested in trying it, maybe the 8cr version.
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

as i've said in the past, spyderco does their 8cr13mov really well. i've been very happy with my resilience and my astute. the performance is much better than the experience i've had with the same steel from other makers. honestly, i'm happy enough with my standard resilience that the only reason for me to buy the s35vn version is because i was one of the people that have asked for an upgraded steel for the last couple of years just because it's a great knife design that deserves better materials. the resilience is a really nice edc and this new steel makes it even better and more capable as a harder use outdoor folder.

I've had the chance to test their serrated 8Cr and so far so good ! Holds well for such a steel.
I think S35VN would add a bit of toughness. I really love S35, before MagnaCut came into play, that's the stainless I found the most balanced (according to my experiences in use of several SS).
Once it's available in France I believe the upgraded version will cost much more. I'm willing to wait and see ! The basic Resilience isn't gonna go anyhere any time soon :open-grin

Going off KnifeSteelNerds, 8cr is tougher than s35vn actually, rating 6 versus 5

you can't just look at toughness though. 8cr13mov has a toughness rating of 6 and s35vn has a toughness rating of 5, but s35vn also has an edge retention rating of 5 while 8cr13mov only scores 3. s35vn is going to have more perceived toughness in use because it has almost the same toughness and will also be less likely to deform because it is harder steel with higher edge retention. you have to look at all the numbers together and think about how they will translate in use.

:index-finger Spot on. This is probably what a lot of people think when considering steels and toughness. Toughness when typically discussing steel ratings is impact/shock resistant. Tensile strength. Think axe. Personally, I like good edge stability which takes a lot of factors to determine how well a steel will perform. Toughness, Hardness and proper heat treat, chemistry, etc. Probably tough to ever get that in a rating.

alright... so we've seen these at major dealers, but it's still "coming soon" on spyderco's site. i can't believe the persistence has been announced and released while we're still waiting on this one. any word on the holdup?

for those that have already received their s35vn resilience, how is it? i'm still looking forward to picking one up the next time i put an order in.

Russo/American trade is not a thing right now, but I gotta wonder if there would have been an S35VN Resilience spike in demand as Russian bear protection. :winking-tongue
