Ok, my opinion time:
I have been a member of many, many forums over many years. I've been here a very short time and only joined because I've spent $1000+ on Spyderco knives and thought I should check it out. Very disappointing. Friendly...I don't think so. In fact almost, if any, response to a new person post is pretty much non-existent. You want to feel like your invisible, this is the place.
Sometimes it just takes time.
I would add that this particular forum is Sal’s, make no mistake. It is his welcome that counts.
I generally don’t presume to welcome anyone until he does, and that leaves me open to missing a bunch of newcomers.
That doesn’t mean I’m not the welcoming sort. Stick around and see.

I never got welcomed, yet I feel welcome.

Same, and I talk back and forth with people here all the time, my first post just flew under the radar, because after all...it's the internet.

When I joined here back in 2004, I never introduced myself. I’ve never formally introduced myself on any forum I ever joined. I just started participating. I left here for 14 years because I was more into BF and other forums (non-knife-related) at the time. I came back here two years ago and just started participating again. Now I participate more on this forum than any other. IIRC, the first thread that got me participating here again was also in the off-topic forum; a discussion that was going on about giants.
