Re: New Spyderco: The WolfSpyder
Pictures in the wild you ask?- Then I shall deliver, post-haste and forthwith :)
Smaller than I remember at the Amsterdam Meet (but that's my memory at fault).
Going to be much less scary than the PM2 to non-knife-peeps. Fits fairly well into a pocket, the pointed rear gives some grip area to draw the blade.
Grip is very comfortable- The large cut out makes the perfect site for the thumb while scraping or doing fine work with the index on the rear of the blade. I keep going for a liner lock that isn't there- it'll take a tiny little bit of hand education.
Rear shape is comfy in a normal grip but perfect in a reverse grip from scraping and bark stripping.
Smooth opening or closing but not the drop free of a PM2 or Yo2.
Jimped spine and G10 section makes for a sensible grip and the comp lock isn't. Again. Feels right.
(note- the jimping on the G10 is clean and crisp- it's pocket fluff and dodgy lighting making it look rough)
Build looks super solid too- plus that thick blade looks robust with the Scandi grind

US 10c, EU 20c and UK 10p for size scale.

Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.

Muchas gracias, Demon. :D I especially appreciate your in-hand pictures. That really helps to explain the functionality of the funky-looking handle. :) How do you like it?

I like it- not saying I love it yet.....that big cut out for the opening hole is taking some getting used to in comparison to over knives.SpyderNut wrote:Muchas gracias, Demon. :D I especially appreciate your in-hand pictures. You can ( as I've shown) hook the index finger into it or press a thumb into it.
The feel of it suggests that it will take a real beating in use- it's super solid, and that I do love.
I will say The Better Half picked it up and instantly said "Wow....This is really well thought out"

Re: New Spyderco: The WolfSpyder
I like it! Probably never have one though...
Even though I'm not a fan of the occluded Spydiehole on one side, I'd imagine you could compression drop the blade out if desired.
I know it's got a proper intended use, but I just see those sharp handle ends and just think it'd be torture on my pants and car seat bolsters!!

Re: New Spyderco: The WolfSpyder
Ok, ^^ that shows it is smaller than I thought and the Spyderhole is quite small. I had originally wondered if Demon was hamfisted, but it looks like his paws are normal size and this is just a smaller than expected design. Thanks for the pics, I now have a lot to consider...

Re: New Spyderco: The WolfSpyder
Thank you for the comparison pictures, Demoncase. As TBD stated, this knife is a LOT smaller than I previously anticipated--which is a good thing. I love knives in this exact size range. This will give me a lot to consider also. :D

Reminds me of an Enzo Birk with a larger handle and comp-lock. Similar size, too.
Going back to Caly.

Re: New Spyderco: The WolfSpyder
It is smaller than I expected, too small as a primary knife in the bush. Looks like a nice sized folder to carry with a scandi FB like a Bushcraft or Mora. Question is, if you already carry a scandi FB, why would you need a small scandi folder? Carving? Or a backup to your FB? I'm not really sure where it should fit into the whole bushcraft theme.
I know I will always reach for a scandi FB with a roomy and comfortable round handle to make feather sticks or split kindling rather than a tiny folder.

Re: New Spyderco: The WolfSpyder
The Wolfspyder has landed on this side of the pond, after a long trip from: Golden, Colorado to England then back to Albany, New York!
As others have said it is on the small size but very stoutly built... Almost heavy in the hand. I like it a lot.
It probably won't replace my Techno as my EDC, but it's sure to find a way into my pocket on the weekends. Great for those weekend hammock trips.

The older I get, the better I was...!
