Customs, VAT, country specific laws, returns/defects....I'm sure it is a nightmare for a unique business model like MassDrop's to deal with.

Also, they say this under the Caly 3 ad:

This thread has emptied my pockets and I can't buy anything else.
But contrary to the opinion of some, I have to confess that
the Double Bevel makes my private parts tingle.

Then his backside will tingle. I've never enjoyed back pocket carry...not that there's anything wrong with it. :D

A bit ironic.
This thread may be showcasing the main reason for MAP pricing.

With or without this thread, it's the end of the year and discontinued models get heavily discounted.

It may be the last year this happens.

If a company wants to get rid of their stock, they should be able to. These aren't brand new knives that recently came out, these are older models that haven't been selling well enough. Also, you can make money selling products in volume instead of just occasionally at higher margins.

Also, as I mentioned in a post on the previous page, some of these deals apparently don't violate MAP requirements, such as the disco'd knives at STP which were advertised in an email to me at prices well above the MAP. However the email also included a 25% coupon code, which would bring the prices well below MAP. As I understand the MAP requirements, this sort of thing may well be permitted.

I doubt MAP will apply to discontinued models like STP sells. But have no idea.
When does MAP kick in? Jan 1st 2016?
I don't think MAP is a bad idea at all. Not uncommon in this industry.
Most have gone to it for several valid reasons.

It may have had something to do with HughesNet "throttling down" my internet speed after I burned up my data allowance. It is not happening to me now that a new period has begun.
