I'm really serious about how mugs and shirts shouldn't keep us from getting a forum knife and how we could have all three :) I agree that this thread helps people escape the regimentation of the polls, express their pent up feelings, and sublimate their repressed knife lust into creative and constructive ideas :D Some of my favorite ideas are Evil D's removable lanyard hole and jabba349's CE blade with the serrations on the tip end :D (I'd at least like a movable lanyard hole to get the dang thing out from where the clip should be mounted.)

Of the serious suggestions of knives that didn't make it into the final poll, one that caught my eye was tvenuto's suggestion of a Worker with natural G-10 scales. It fits my idea of giving people an excuse to buy an unusual knife they might not otherwise buy plus it has inexpensive VG-10 steel, packs a lot of Spypderco tradition, it's a relatively rare model and fills the nich of a small, useful "splinter picker" type knife. Two things going against it are that it's made in Japan and there's presently a Worker sprint :)

But it was the fact that there were scads of different knives that different people wanted that necessitated the polls in the first place and obviously they all couldn't be in the polls, so here we are.

If I were in charge (of the knife request), I'd probably ask Sal if he could look around at his leftover materials and supplies and see if he could scrap together whatever sort of knife that would be easiest and most convenient for him and would help clean out extra odds and ends around the storage spaces :)

How about some Spyderco underwear?

I'm kidding! I'd like a normal baseball cap, a mug, and a Roadie please. You can sharpen on most cups anyway. Finish sharpening though - they're pretty fine. Here's mine, by the way...

That's a FINE looking cup Jazz!! In fact I like your whole breakfast ensemble... have you reported this to your therapist?.... (J/K!! :D ) Seriously, it is a fine looking cup, and I've got that knife!... as well as the G-10 and Super Blue D-flies... I think it would be cool to enlarge them a bit, angle them at 45 degrees, and put all three around the cup. I'm guessing maybe you cut the knife out and pasted it on, but it really looks like you had it printed on at one of those mall kiosks thingies.

I wonder if you couldn't sand the bottom with coarse grit and raise a coarser grain. Ha, I just remembered that once in my BS days (Before Spyderco) I sanded off the bottom of my favorite mug so it would make better contact with my little coffee-warming hot plate -- it was definitely very fine but perfectly flat and with enough grit to put to good use.

I made the pic on my phone with a color splash app, then went to London Drugs to have it done. They do a great job. That's a cookie jar beside it, not me :D. Here's the picture...

I will suggest that it should be a model with as much universal appeal as possible. I would like to see a Golden model. The easiest thing might be to use a different color FRN or G10, or G10 with a different grind. I don't know how much trouble it is to use a different steel in a normal model but I would like to see that as well.

I really like that photo. I think it or one similar would be a good calendar picture, if your phone has the resolution Kristi required last time. I think I read that you can beef up the res. after the fact to meet such requirements, though I'm sure it's just a software trick that wouldn't improve the pic.... well, back to the task at hand, campaigning for a forum knife

I agree, it definitely has to be a forum fan favorite and attainable (as in no ATR, as awesome as that'd be). I'd love to see it come out of Golden to kick off their new expansion, and also I believe Sal has suggested he'd prefer it to as well, but I'm not sure just how strong that preference is so I wouldn't count anything out yet till he speaks on that.

I doubt a color change is that big a deal, though a steel change might be a little more work. I'm most excited to see a cool handle, and not to worried about the blade which is odd coming from me.

As much as I'd love a PM2 in some cool colored carbon fiber or arctic camo G10, I'm really digging the Michael Walker idea. That is a cool looking knife that I'd never considered before but the more I look at it the more I like it.

An interesting suggestion to be sure, but I like it on principle. It's a niche model that I would have no interest in other than as a forum knife, and I might just find its merits after picking it up.
