I love Spyderco knives, and own quite a few of them, but I don't think I've been quite as excited about a new model as I am about the folding Ronin/Yojimbo! For my requirements, its design is as close to the perfect EDC that I've ever seen.

Still anxiosly waiting for the yojimbo. I just got my ronin, and if the yojimbo is half as good, i'll be happy.

My right front pocket is empty... it really needs a Yojimbo (Gunting's on my belt ;o).

Dear Bildrac:

I know the feeling...

Last I heard, the production prototype was done (that was about two weeks ago). That supposedly paves the way for real production, but I don't have any more intel on that, nor do I have any dates.

Now you know just as much as I do. Depressing, isn't it?

Stay safe,

Mike,

Thank you for the update, and yes, it is rather depressing... but the good thing is I'm starting to learn patience, and delay of gratification, two absent skills I've long needed to develop, lol. I feel like a child waiting for his birthday.

Does anyone know if this one will be made in Japan or the USA? I believe the computer problems mentioned by Sal have set back the production schedule for the USA models, but of course not affected the Japan-made models.

Hi, Rex G--

The Yojimbo is intended to be made here in the good ol' U.S.A.

I'm eagerly awaiting, too!

Hi Guys. I guess under the circumstances, you can see why we're reluctant to make announcements or show pictures of any new models until we're sure of production schedules.

The original pic shown in November was long before we were ready to show pics or make announcements. Our plan was for summer at best. We're trying to speed up the pace, but there are quite a few models that were in the works long before the Yojimbo.

I'm sorry if we're taking longer than you would like. We need to make it right the first time.

Sal,

I love your company and products, so I usually wind up purchasing 3-4 Spydercos every year. And I've had numerous Spydercos on my belt or in my pocket for over 20 years, so I can wait a little bit longer for this one.

Best regards,

Bildrac

Early announcements are good.

I might buy a pearl handled nail cleaning knife on a whim. But an MBC knife is safety equipment, and I very carefully research safety equipment. That takes time. If Spyderco had not announced the Yojimbo early, I would have bought a set of knives from another maker. But, since I have a Ronin -- well, three Ronins -- and I am greatly impressed with the design, I decided to wait for the Yojimbo. The Yojimbo solves two problems for me. First, if it handles anything like the Ronin, it is much better than anything else I have seen. Second, as it has a reversible clip, I can buy two and carry one on each side. If push comes to shove, carrying two identical knives takes some hesitation and uncertainty out of the equation. I want every advantage I can get.

I hope Spyderco will provide a complete solution, and produce a red handled drone.

Thanx much. The Yojimbo is a very well thought out design and we want to make sure to make it right.

The Ronin, took much longer than we'd expected or hoped for, but the final outcome was a piece Michael and Spyderco could be proud of.

Mr. Janich,
It looks wicked...nice job!
It rather resembles a reverse tanto blade shape that should be nice for slashing or stabbing. Nice and simple, and clean, too.
Great job.

I handled the Yojimbo at the Blade Show. It is GOOD! It will not replace the Gunting as my EDC but since I almost always carry 2 or 3 knives I am sure when I am able to get a Yojimbo it will be carried most of the time. It does have a slightly longer handle than the Ronin, for those who may have thought the Ronin lacking in that area.

@ Rex G

I have a Gunting, but the Yojimbo might replace it as my EDC. :-)
