I'd say give the PM2 a fair shake, it's a wonderful knife. The 3.5 has a closer handle/blade ratio and is a mean slicer. If I'm doing something more robust, I'd grab the Para. They both excel, just in slightly different roles. Pics are always better than not pics, so I included one in the previous post.

The Caly 3.5 is my 2nd favorite EDC knife. It's slim, light, but with a nice long blade, and does everything I need a knife to do. If this was the only EDC knife I could use for the rest of my life I would not be unhappy. Mine did need rinse with hot water, dry with compressed air, re oil treatment but it is really smooth now. It's not perfect though. The midlock is a little awkward to close one-handed compared with other locking mechanisms, the edge retention isn't great compared with 154CM or S30V, at least on mine the blade is significantly off center, and I wish it was all torx construction in stead of the goofy part pinned/part hex/part torx system they used. These are all minor niggles though and do not detract much from the awesomeness of the knife.

:EDIT: And FWIW I paid $65 for my Caly. Prior to owning it I would never have paid $100+ for one, but now that I've had it for a while I'd say it's definitely with the price.

Just got my 3.5 in the mail. I definitely need to work on getting the grit out. Very nice knife otherwise. :)

Congrats. For my own curiosity, why the 3.5 over the 3.

Nothing very scientific I'm afraid. I was just going with what many others were recommending.

Do you have any thoughts besides it being gritty? I know you are one of the guys that bought the 3.5 during this thread and was looking forward to what you had to say. The 3.5 is on the top of my list but want to know your thoughts.

Well, I haven't done much with it yet; but I'm liking the blade length and how light and thin it is overall. I will probably take the blade out soon and clean it up to remedy the grit. Once that is accomplished, it will be a great EDC I'm thinking. I will be carrying it quite a bit in the coming weeks.

Edit: I just cleaned out the grit and lubricated the pivot area. It's much smoother now.

I continue to see people mention how thin the Caly 3.5 is. How's that thinness compared to the Sage-1?

The Caly 3 and 3.5 are noticeably thinner (about the same thickness as a Delica 4).

Just get one already!

Sorry, no Sage 1, this is the best I can do. Pretty sure the Sage 1 and 2 are quite close, it not the same size? Someone else'll have to chime in on that.

I don't know what it is about this 3.5, but I've only had it for 2 days and I can't put it down. I cleaned up the pivot smoothness and just did a hand polish on the blade and clip with some Mother's Mag Polish.

It's just a great feeling and looking knife IMO.

I've got the 3.5 in g10. I just picked up the 3 in super blue. Now I'm having a hard time not picking up another 3.5 in ZDP-189 with the carbon fiber scales.

My only hesitation is that I know the carbon fiber is quite smooth. Thoughts?

I have a replacement CF 3.5 inbound as we speak. I traded my original with my M390 Para for a pair of sprint militarys. I found the CF handle smooth, but the choil and small handle profiel allow plenty of purchase on my Calys.

I'll be the dissenter here because I prefer the Delica to the Caly. I still like the 3 and 3.5 quite a bit and own both. I prefer the smaller (albeit useless) choil of the Delica and the handle fits my hand perfectly. I also think the Delica is better looking.

Hmm...well I just left the store and I couldn't pull the trigger. Just something about it didn't speak to me. I left with the Bradley Folder instead. M4 steel! I'm still kind of on the fence on this one as well, but I think it will grow on me.

The original VG10 Caly 3 was probably among the top 5 best Spyderco knives to ever get discontinued. I'd say the 3.5 is a good replacement.
