I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this thread is an example of why I wish posing deals was not allow on this forum. These deals weren't all that great if you can run google. Now the thread has gone negative. The forum is better when talking about knives instead of dealers

IMO, I still think there was some good deals to be had. Show me anywhere online where I can get a Sage 1 for $ 80 shipped.

I personally like the fact folks will look out for one another for good deals. Not all of us want to or can afford to pay full retail price or are able to buy 30 knives at a time.

I'm a firm believer in voting with your wallet. If they keep doing it and enough people stop doing business and voice displeasure, then perhaps it will stop.

Either way, I would imagine most people come out better in the end anyways.

It was legal trouble, but it has been a long time. Late 80's or so. Before the internet. :D
I checked their website, but didn't find anything I wanted. :)

I like a good deal as much as anyone and I search them out every time I am shopping for something. But the purpose of this forum was never about finding good deals. The narrow focus is what makes it a great forum. the fact that you and I are disagreeing on this thread further convinces me I was right, it is a negative.

I just cooked up some macnut encrusted mahi mahi with mango salsa on top. Mmmm...

Oh yes, I like to shop for knives online too.

I think $99 plus free shipping for the Gayle Bradley was a fantastic deal and this thread is how it came to my attention.

Before this most recent 'sale' @ Poorfish, I was able to snag the last Sage 1 they had in stock on Nov 30, for $74 shipped after coupon. I liked this deal so much, that I went back to buy another 2 hours later - they were sold out. Ten days later, the new supply of Sage 1 is $107. I'm glad I jumped on 11/30.
Sage 1 is a beautiful creation indeed.

Placed an order with these guys 4-5 days ago...still hasn't shipped and zero communication. Obviously part of the order isn't in stock even though everything was listed as in stock...deceptive and annoying... :mad:

Mine came in today. Placed the order on Friday.

Seems that their customer service is spotty. This is my second order from them and they've been great.

I wouldn't want you tosearch as I already have and already know it can't be found.

I think part of loving knives and wanting to add to one's collection is seeking out good deals so that each one of us can do that and not lose our necks on it.

My suggestion is, since you seem to get bent over people discussing deals, don't open up threads where the title has to do with an online store or might suggest where a deal can be found. Simple.

You're entitled to your opinion. In my experience arguments, while relatively rare on this forum, break out on threads about the pros and cons of particular models, experience using Spyderco products, quality control, customer service, etc. - all appropriate topics which are appreciated by many forum members as is this one.

i've purchased from them, and noticed significant discrepancy between their ebay listings and their homepage listings, like ~$20 difference for Spyderco Assist, their ebay prices being cheaper but without the promos. for the price i paid, they compared better than everything that turned up on shop.google.com

Hmmm...I guess I'm just used to using Amazon...fast shipping and great service.

I have ordered from Poorfish on many occasions and have nothing but good things to say about them.

I think it is just a matter of time before Spyderco follows the industry trend of dealer direct, and MAP pricing. Both Benchmade and Emerson have moved to this fully or in part in the last two years. Gone are eBay specials (as the majority of folks who sell on eBay as a business do so through a distributor a-- dealer direct means no distributors, and with MAP pricing there are little "deals" one can offer).

What it comes down to, is that it is hard to require a dealer to maintain a brick and mortar store, and buy certain amounts of product each year... When large distributors may not hold their customers to the same standards. The guy in his basement selling on eBay has little to no overhead, and can sell at margins the legit dealers can't make a living on. And this, of course does not even bring in the issue of "branding" and what lower costs do to brand image.

It may seem off topic (and forgive me if it is) however my point is this... Enjoy these days, and don't ***** about them. It may never happen, but if I was a betting man, I would lay money it will someday... The days of super eBay deals on Spyderco's may go the way of the dinosaur.

Your super low prices come at a cost. Customer service maybe. There is no free lunch. You know what a good deal is, and you know when it is not a good deal. I know we all want a good deal, but at times the "how cheap can I get it" is not good for the brand, the dealers... Or in some cases even the customer.

I ordered my Gayle Bradley from them on the 9th and received it on the 15th. I also got a couple of email updates in between. It's my only experience with them but it was 100% positive.

Good points all.

But posting phony prices when you are offering a "sale" coupon is just plain wrong and in many states will get you in trouble with the law.

And telling two people who ordered the same product at the same time at the sale price that both packages were somehow damaged beyond repair in shipping and then not responding to questions from the puzzled buyers -- well, I really don't know what to say about that.

If this thread never went "negative" would you still have an issue with it?

As long as folks can talk about their good transaction they should be able to talk about their bad ones as well, provided all the conversation stays reasonable to the standards of the forum. Knowledge of what vendors do with pricing and customer service is all valuable information for the customers, and for Spyderco as well.

Only when it went negative did I feel compelled to speak up. The internet is loaded with sites specifically dedicated to deals. This one is dedicated to Spyderco knives. I have been participating in forums long enough to have seen many trends come and go. One trend that grows very quickly when allowed is deal/price threads. Other forums have let it in then had to put it into it's own category to clean up the forum.

I have said before the competition to sell Spyderco knives is such that good deals are everywhere every day, so deal threads are not needed here.... an exception would be: Any dealer with an exclusive model should be listed here, that is about the knife not the deal.

I hear ya. I don't see the sharing of such information among a community that has specific shared interest as necessarily a bad thing. Not everyone has the time or inclination to search out all corners of the internet for the best price. Those that find the deals want to share the wealth, so to speak, because they know others may be looking for the same thing. I wouldn't mind having a section dedicated to posting info on deals but it's possible that would lead to an increase of spam posts and shills, which we would not want. There doesn't seem to be any one perfect solution.

I think the easiest solution is for those who don't want to talk about deals, to not open the thread. That way they concentrate on other threads and not have to whine about what others wish to discuss.
