Pre-order process
This is the same post as another thread, but figured it couldnt hurt for those still thinking about this exclusive. This is text from CS site. Ive heard they are halfway gone already!
PRE-ORDERS EXPLAINED:
We've had a few customers ask how we handle pre-orders, so we thought it a good idea to explain.
When you place your order our payment gateway (Authorize.net) communicates with your bank or credit card company to verify availability of funds (if you're using a debit card) or to verify credit availability (if your using a credit card). As we (Cutlery Shoppe) don't want your money until we're ready to send your order, we do not complete the transaction. After a few days (this varies from bank to bank) this "pre-authorization will disappear when they do not see the transaction completed. This releases the funds held (on debit cards) or credit availability (on credit cards).
When the knives arrive (Spyderco has quoted December delivery) we will charge the card you've provided. As we will be processing hundreds of orders, it will not be possible to contact you before processing. If the funds are not available and the card declines, we will e-mail you. If we don't hear back with an alternate card in a day or two, we'll cancel the order.

Question for you (or anyone else who wants to chime in) - I was told recently by the owner of a major knife dealer that orange was especially popular in Europe, even more than in the US. That does seem to be consistent with what I've noticed over the years. If that's right, is there any particular reason for its popularity?Scottie3000 wrote:I'm waiting patiently. Jeff emailed a number of his customers many months back and asked what we would want. I might have picked out this exact knife.
1. perhaps they just like the color [kind of like how black is in, or brown is in one season etc]
2. often people relate it as "nato orange" I can't give you too many details because frankly I don't quite know, I do know there is a military nato smoke colored orange - of which I don't know what it stands for. Im assuming help or a spot for a heli, this is just a guess.
Along these lines perhaps people are more keen to involving themselves with such organizations? I don't know
3. Its a safety color, could "de-horrify" the knife as such a dangerous and obscene tool. [strong words I know but some places and people may see it this way and are totally afraid of these black knives etc]
4. this is a long shot, but there was an orange resistance or movement or something in Ukraine? you would have to Wikipedia that for more info.
These are only my guesses so take them with a grain of salt and what you will. There is no concrete answer. It can very well be just the fad, who knows.

I think Phrenik said it best. I haven't seen too many knives in Europe at all. My EDC a lot of days is a orange UKPK just for legal/image purposes.JNewell wrote:Question for you (or anyone else who wants to chime in) - I was told recently by the owner of a major knife dealer that orange was especially popular in Europe, even more than in the US. I would have picked the exact same knife -- with BLACK G10.
As I have no interest in orange, I won't be ordering one. I sure wish Spyderco would simply redo the Manix 2 in FFG instead of hollow grind.
