I chose the chisel grind for the Snody Ronin because Snody is one of the few makers who does it right. If you think about the cross section of a hollow-ground chisel edge, it is exactly half of the cross section of a normal double hollow-grind. If the bevel is high enough, the chisel grind provides superior edge geometry and very little drag during cutting.

Sal is not a fan of chisel grinds and wanted to make the production version of the Ronin different from the custom one. Since Spyderco is one of the few companies to do a flat grind right, we opted for that. I preferred the full flat grind to achieve a high bevel, so that's how the production models will be done.

Thanks to 357SIG for answering Mort's question. By the way, the Ronin article for TK originally included mention that a Spyderco production model was in the works, but that was edited out.

I see mine every day. Beautiful, dangerous.

The only problem with the Damascus Ronin is that it is almost too pretty to carry. I am looking forward to the Spyderco production version.

I am also anxiously awaiting the folding Ronin. Right now, I carry a Tempest on my right side, and a Native on my left side, because the Native has a reversible clip.

If I could get two Ronins, and they had reversible clips, I would have two knives that work exactly the same, which would be a great advantage under stress.

Got my first Ronin at the Blade Show. Showed up Friday and had to wait a while but it was worth it. Great blade!

Looking forward to the Spyderco Ronin and the folding Yojimbo!

How much longer before we will see these things become available?

Congratulations! I'm glad you like your Ronin.

As for the Spyderco fixed-blade version, it is hoped that the knives will be completed and delivered to Colorado next month. We then need to sort out the sheath and carry system and get those in production before the knives go out the door. I don't know how long that will take, but I'd guess a few months more.

As for the folder, it's "in the works," but even farther out than the fixed blade.

I wish I had better news, but I've always believed that honesty was the best policy.

I can say that while in Seki last month, inspection of the work in progress was was good.

We are expecting prodcution to be shipping within several months. These things always take a long time to do them right and plan them in. The alternative to waiting is our just keeping quiet until the product is ready to ship, but that presents its own problems.

The reaction to the design was good at the SHOT show, the European IWA show and the Blade mag show.

We're pleased to be able to make the model as close to Mike's design as was possible. We're hoping you will like them.....and buy them.

Nope, not here yet. This month's Japan shipment isn't due 'til later in the month, though. Not that I know whether the Ronins will be ON the next shipment. . .I'll do some checking.

I'm consulting ongoingly with Michael Janich regarding the specifics of the sheath design, so once there're some knives to work from we should get that process rolling and get the Ronins to market as rapidly as circumstances allow. (Although the knives are made in Japan, the Kydex sheaths are made in the U.S.A.)

This knife is one of my favorite designs--I, too am eager to see them arrive.

I appreciate your patience. . .I'm sure the Ronins will be worth the wait!

I am very interested in the Ronin as a fixed blade and folder. Quite an impressive knife. Seeing the knife in action is enough for me. I want TWO of each as soon as they are available. Sounds like the fixed version will be available from Spyderco soon and I will be ready to order. I would pre-order if possible...How bout it Sal????????

I received my new Skunkworks sheath for my Ronin. I sent my Ronin to Frank and he really hooked me up with a great package. The sheath has been primarily set up for iwb appendix/felony carry. However, it has neck carry and sob for other options. No static cords or rigging, just pure kydex artistry. This sheath makes a great knife even better. I just wanted to share my thoughts.
