Just got mine in the mail today. It's freaking perfect except for two knicks in the blade close to the choil area... Is this a common issues with the s90v blade from the factory? I was planning to keep this untouched but now it's bothering me...

It's most likely going to be a safe queen but I know I'm going to see nothing but these knicks every time I look at it... What should I do?

It's a Spyderco D'allara drop point. :)

I am amazed at this knife, I did not think I was going to like it this much. No way I am selling this thing unless someone gives me way to much money for it.
Love CF spydercos, stretch II and Superhawk are next on my list :D

The only thing i don't like is how there is no screw in the back, you can tell the handle has some clearance , and if you push down it comes all the way together near the lanyard hole, if it wasn't for that I would say this is the best made knife I have ever had. :spyder:

I got one today. Two reactions:

1. This is much bigger than I'd expected - I was thinking Delica/Caly3 size!

2. I'd always thought that the best F&F in a Spyderco was the Caly3. Wow, this one is fully the equal of the (remarkably nice) Caly3.

Nice job, Sal & co.!!!

The caged ball lock on this knife combined with the thinner blade has overcome my largest objection to ball-lock knives. It actually has a strong enough closed detent to make me comfortable with tip-up carry. I would still prefer tip-down, but unlike my other ball-lock knives I don't feel like I need a rubber band around the knife to keep it closed when it's clipped to a cargo pocket.

I give it two thumbs up!
I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.

Best Spyderco of 2009.........

#71

Post by MCM »

Hands down, this is the best Spyderco of 2009.
No debate....... (To me anyway)

That's why I started this thread.
This is a present & future Grail Spyderco guarenteed.

Any ideas how they shaved 25% of the weight off the production knife?

Grind? Liners? CF? all of the above? :p

I just wanted to show my love for this knife too. Received it the other day and like JNewell said, it is bigger than I expected. I can't believe the original Manix is even bigger. Let'shope we see that one in S90V and CF.

And since there might not be enough pictures of this beautiful knife, here is one more. Enjoy:

Some knives come out and you think "might have to think about that one". Some knives are like "gonna have to make room for this one". This knife screamed "buy me now, do not delay"! I'm not one to turn loose of hard earned money easily, this knife was worth it. First thing that struck me was how thin and light it was for the size, especially compared with the Mini Manix. It's a production knife and will have small issues here and there, but it's just a great knife, as someone stated instant grail material. Great steel, carbon fiber, limited quantity, excellent fit/finish with street price under $200. Recently acquired CF Stretch 2 may be a better overall edc, but who cares? For someone who had no CF scaled knives until recently, the CF Stretch, Sage, and CF Manix make quite the trifecta :)

I think the 2nd and final batch is going to show up next week / early Sep.
There are waiting lists though, so you better start calling & e-mailing if you want one. Also, there selling on the Bay.

Good luck! Its worth your trouble and dollars.

I didn't like the 2-tone look of mine - it just didn't fit in w/ the rest of the knife. So I took it apart and sanded the backspacer to a nice brushed finish. I'm not sure what it is but it polished up just like regular stainless steel would. Mine looks much nicer now IMHO...
