OFFICIAL G-10 Lava Thread
Sal. Thanks for the generous post. There are certainly many different aspects to consider when refining or changing handle scales on a current production knife. It almost seems to be that you guys would have to start from scratch on this and all we have right now is a basic shape to work with. We appreciate your help in understanding this better.

Sal, thanks for taking the time for that response. It must be difficult making such decisions and taking requests from us, especially when forum users probably represent only a fraction of ELUs. I'm a long time lurker, and I know that there are many 'I want' threads, and while flattering, it must be annoying at times.
Regarding fulfilling people's requests, I asked a similar question on bladeforums with no response, would it be possible for us to actually commit and preorder before manufacturing even begins so that you know for a fact you will make back a certain amount? No returns or exchanges, it would be treated as ordering a custom knife. If you can't reach a certain threshold, credit us back, less the credit card transaction fees. I'm sure I'm not the only one that would put down some cash right now.

Sal, thank you for your explanation. I'll be honest and admit I was hoping for a more positive one :) . Like "yes, we are seriously thinking about upgrading Lava" :) . I am a regular visitor to this forum and I think Lava thread got really great attention. I think its because all of us who participated in it feel it has a big potential to be better than it already is. Don't know, its one of those knifes that sticks out in the crowd. Like Dodo for instance, you can't not notice it. Maybe not the best comparison as it was discontinued :) .I respect the fact that you are running a serious business and it is in the end your decision. After all, we don't have all the facts. But I am certain that all posts made for Lava had a valid background. It is a great design and it just feels odd that it doesn't get the opportunity to be even better knife. Being bigger or g10 or being cheaper. But as I said, I respect your decision (although I might not totally agree with it :) ). You can't win them all I guess.
Avatar in support of my favorite designer! CLB rocks!!!!
Coming in late on this thread, but count me in for a G10 Lava, skeleton-ized handles in preference with a darker color. I would prefer black or a dark navy blue rather than something like orange or yellow. Part of the charm of the Lava is that it can be more discreetly carried than others, and the darker handles would help maintain that.
I am also taken with the idea of a longer blade for the existing handle, perhaps with a little more of a point to it.
I have a Lava now, and I would definitely get at least one of the newer ones if (or when, hopefully) they come out.

Actually I would like to see the blade left alone. The existing blade cuts amazingly well for its size due to the belly of the knife. It cuts better than some larger knives I have. I think a larger blade would just compete with the dragonfly.SimpleIsGood229 wrote:I think a longer blade in the existing handle would be excellent!
Another thing i like is that I travel alot and the small blade allows me to meet most jurisdiction laws.
