Either we work for the same global company or we are competitors (chummy competition :) ).
I know your problem very well, to be the one and only with a pocket knife really sucks. And all the questions why I carry a knife with me and for what purpose ... my co-workers don't know what they miss :D

I'm a field biologist (wolverines/lynx) and currently teach biology at college.

I used to spend months at the time in isolated mountain areas, but after getting married and our daughter beeing born this has changed a bit.

I still spend a lot of my time outside, but not for months at the time. Get to wear whatever knives I please when I'm in the field though :D

I'm a manager for a rather large financial printing company. Good money, rarely see my boss and have tons of freedom. No complains here...

i am a special education teacher, i work with high school aged students with autism, emotional disturbances, schizophrenia, intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiance, severe behavioral disorders, mental retardation....it is a VERY rewarding job...

I dunno. Mollusc veligers seem pretty darn close to bugs to me......... :eek:

Retired Air Force. After 10 years in the semiconductor mines as an engineering tech on metal deposition tools, Java is enjoying life in the desert as an avionics tech working in the aircaft flight test environment. Our fully instrumented Electric Lawn Darts (F-16) currently keep me pretty busy. Considering a switch to the F-22 or F-35 but may end up back in the Nevada desert working on.........well....other stuff.

Thankfully the clams are relegated to their tanks, unlike the wharf roaches and millipedes we always happen to see wandering around the hatchery.

True story, when I worked on a charter boat, a wharf roach had somehow made its way aboard from the dock. As I was chasing it off, it squirted out little, tiny, baby wharf roaches. They all ran off in different directions while I stood there thoroughly disgusted. One of the freakiest things I've ever seen..

My day job is trying to get enough sleep so I can stay awake during my night job, a big-city police patrol officer and field trainer/evaluator. (I do not work for my listed hometown!) I have thought about changing assignments, but being a first responder still holds a level of excitement that I still need, for some reason. I use 3 Spydercos at work: Civilian, Rescue 93mm, and whatever that Rescue model is with the glass breaker and make-believe whistle. The current chief announced that all knives must be concealed, so the Gunting, that had ridden in a custom sheath on the belt for several years, stays at home nowadays.

This is a cool thread. I had wondered about this, too.

I own a small software business in Boulder, CO. I have worked for a couple of other software/consulting businesses, on a derivative trading floor, and before all that, NASA. I worked for NASA for almost 10 years, including while I went to Georgia Tech. I did my graduate work out here in Boulder and just had to come back here.

I also volunteer at my kids' school, coach two soccer teams, and respect the heck out of stay-at-home dads!
