I just realised this, there'll probably be... say, x number of sales on average, and then a huge spike if/when a Damascus mule comes out. Sal, please say that those who have ordered other mules get first preference! Please!?!

Wow this sounds like a lot of fun. Super spyderco Steel blanks. I can't wait Because of money I can only do individual but I'd love to buy in for the whole run.

Great idea. As much as I want exotic steels a few of the standard steels for comparison will be required. I am already thinking about how to comparison test the blades. First off will to keep some brushy bushes around and allow equal tree trimming tasks. The Temperances are excellent pruning tools. Considering the possible stress of testing I'll want two of the really cool ones like Damascus.

Sad thing is that is exactly what will happen.
I'm just hoping that people go into this with the right mindset. Sal is doing us a favor by allowing us to test these high end steels. If I see these things on Ebay with the "RARE DAMASCUS BLADE, ONLY A FEW WERE PRODUCED" I'm going to be really irritated. Not that my irritation will amount to anything, but still.
These blades are meant to be used and abused, more so than normal knives. To let them sit on a shelf would be to undermine the entire principle of the program.
I'd even go so far as to say don't do a Damascus blade, but I would like to try one, if only to see if they perform up to par with the other steels, then I can join the Deacon on the Damasteel bandwagon.
Looks good.

I’m in. I’ll probably only do individual purchases on the more exotic steel types, though I might be interested in getting the whole series.

How the heck did I miss out on this for so long???
3-4 a year sounds doable even on my budget, and the chance to use new and different steels... Like I'm gonna pass that up!

That's one of the steels That I'd like to see. It's a relative of ZDP and it's used in rockstead knives. The trouble is getting these imported to the US and doing it without having to buy a whole melt. I haven't heard one way or another about having any built in Japan. So far, this is a Golden project. Wether it stays that way is beyond me. There are lots of nice Japanese steels to try though :) Joe
