Wasn't a spyder, but I got bit pretty good by a Buck when I was a kid. I was throwing it in the lawn (lesson learned) and fell on the blade resulting in 7 stitches in the palm of my hand.
Bout took the end of my middle finger off with a 9" Forschner, luckily I just filleted a bit of it, but the nail slowed things down enough to keep the tip. This happened to be the same knife that my dad, a former butcher, sank all the way into his inner thigh. Luckily he missed his femeral artery and his junk :eek: . Both of which may have resulted in my not being here.
I also sunk the leather punch on a SAK all the way in my leg once.

Ive only been bitten twice, but both were bad, and the result of just being momentarily dumb in the head. 1. ) I was 10 and had just gotten a delica 1, full seratted, black blade for my birthday. I was fiddling with it and oop! it drops, perfectly, through my Chuck Taylor and into my unsocked foot. It even sticks!! That sucked so hard, but I didnt tell my mom cause shed take it away ("youll shoot your eye out")

2.) Bought myself the karambit for my birthday, and was fiddling with it, and spun it so that the point was coming back at me :rolleyes: . the first half dozen times, nothing, but on number 7, my wrist gets in the way and, yep, the blade goes into my wrist. Fortunately, my wrist is more fat than vein, and I was spared SERIOUS injury, but just a boo boo that hurt for 4 or 5 days.

ZERO firearms accidents thus far - knock on wood

I've lost count of my injuries... 18yrs of knives, I've cut every fingertip a dozen times, stabbed my thigh a couple times, dropped a knife on my ankle a few times... and we're not going to count the times I've cut my fingers.

Add in there 89-96 with scouts canada and 96-02 with air cadets... and injuries from 3 jobs and home reno's.

Last time I counted scars on my hands/arms I stopped at 45. Thats just visible scars. Not counting all the ones I KNOW I have, or the burned fingertips....

No major injuries so far, just a few slices on the fingers, that's about it, really.

cut a zip-tie with my Ce blackhawk and it slipped, cutting my finger with the ce part :eek: not vary nice, cut through the fingernail.

Those pics on the Karambit forum are the best.
Spinning a live blade is not a good idea.

I think its farily evident that there should be a Spyderco Zip Tie Cutter.. If there isn't one already, Spyderwrench?

Hmm... strangely enough for me, a pair of nail clippers works well as long as I can get the zip tie in between the blades. It doesn't sound as good (or look right), but it's definitely much safer. If I can't get the zip tie within the blades, well, where's my knife then...

You know, I've found nail clippers to be very useful with extremely small zip ties because I usually have them for bundling and sorting power and data cables at my desk. Having a knife slip in that situation could cause a lot more damage to a lot more things :eek:

VERY sobering thread. Like the old saying, measure twice, cut once, cut smart.

Always look when you are cutting.

For me, no more cutting of zip ties with knives if I can help it. A pair of nippers is the right tool for that job.
