Nice trail run in the woods with the perfect running knife Salt 2 (in my use still competing with the Chap for that position though)

(Nick @Mushroom: I know these are "fungi", but could one also call them "mushrooms"? Both my English and mycology are not good enough to know...;) )

Such a cool little knife ! ! !
Flip it over to the non clip side and it looks like a flying saucer .

I'm always tempted to put a ring through the Spydie hole and wear mine around my neck to a SciFi convention .
((actually I've never been to a SciFi con but I had a customer for a couple decades who was like in his late sixties , he was a local judge , he always went to them and dressed up like a Trekie . True Story . Drove a British car too . Anybody who can keep a British car as a regular driver is OK by me . Takes a certain je ne sais quoi .))

What do I know ; I was sure they were some kind of stone hard barnacles or something . I'm pretty isolated from some things out here in the Wild Wild West .

What the heck . . . I'll post one . . . not exactly carrying it today since I am on the couch all day with my feet up (day off) . . .
I wanted to post it because I included it with other knives a few days ago and called it "black" hahaha .

It was very late , I was sure it wasn't black , held it under a couple of lamps (not bright lamps; that's why I like them; we are kind of alike (not very bright)) . The knife looked totally black , even next to another knife that IS black .

So I get it out to take an image of it at midday, in North exposure light no less , and look how light blue it is in this image .
Actually it looks nothing like this either . It is in fact "Midnight Blue / Blurple" looks MUCH darker in person in the same light .

Maxamet blade ; dark gray patina ; mirror sharpening bevels .
I like it !

Yes, that’s a species of shelf fungus and they are technically mushrooms.

Now THAT sounds like a profitable business model (if ladies wore hats anymore ; going to have to add in a time machine up front). Fancy ladies hats that grow themselves . . .
what da'ya think ?

10.7 mile hike this afternoon... longest one I've done in quite a while and it felt good to do a long hike.

Thanks!

So all fungi are also mushrooms?
I was (am) not sure if the latter English term would not be reserved for species with the typical stem and hat and growing on the ground.

(Sorry for going quite off topic, but I always think this particular thread is the one to do so from time to time.
And when I posted that shelf-fungus-knife pic and was about to call those "mushrooms" the question spontanously came to my mind and I thought Nick @Mushroom might know the answer)

/ Btw.: Same knife in pocket today while exploring some old, forgotten mountain trails :smlling-eyes

Sorry Wartstein, didnt see the first post. But yes, Spydieology is correct that is a shelf mushroom! A big one too, nice find! :cheap-sunglasses I don't know what kind exactly but the type of tree it's growing on can often be a helpful hint towards identifying it.
