gateway arch, but it was a gateway to the east today.

Great pic LB, I've been under that archway in a boat lol...during a really bad flooded situation. Was really tough few days there.

Great pic though...

Last time I was under the arch I was lost with some fellow college students, and we had just survived getting lost in East St. Louis. I have a very blurry picture of the Arch somewhere from the old, cheap digital camera I had at the time.

Last time I was in the arch I was hungover from the Larry Flint club in east St Louis.

Haha that's surely quite the story Mrj! I was travelling with a church group at the time for hurricane Katrina relief, so we didn't stop at any clubs of that sort on the drive through(that didn't stop me from ordering a beer with supper when we visited the French Quarter in New Orleans, quite rebellious for that group, hah!).

I’m dying . All I remember is that thing has little pods that take u up and it sways at the top. Shew. I couldn’t wait to get down. That was like 20 years ago.

this was my first time. i don't think i've even ever been to missouri before. first time in kansas and illinois too.

I helped get a guy off the top of a 452' tall antenna and repeater tower once. There was a couple things that shocked me. First, how freaking long it took me to climb up there... it took 2 freaking long hours climbing the face of that tower with all the gear and first-aid stuff.

Second thing was just how much that tower moves in the wind. I figured being guy wired off as much as these are that they didn't move nearly as much as this one was. You sure don't see the swinging in the wind from the ground lol. I knew that had movement just not that much...

Once we got up on the platform, that was the first thing I noticed was the top of this tower swinging really slow rolling circle of 15-20'. Let's just say after that you don't focus on that or you will find yourself in trouble up there next lol... had a heck of a view from up there too.

We had to tie this guy off between us and then repel off the face of the tower to get him down quick as possible, he was doing really good staying calm so he could help much as he could. Was pretty intense 4 hours.

This all said, I would not be surprised if that arch doesn't swing around in the wind some too. I just think about how much that tower was circling in the light wind we had that day. Most things need some flexing.

I would hate to have to climb up one when it was really blowing, they told me that is about how much they circle, they just get to moving faster as the wind picks up in speed.

Going to pack on this military 2 today...

I would never climb a radio tower, not for all the exclusives and sprint runs for the past 30 years. Mad respect to both maintenance personnel and first responders that do.

You were about 2 1/2 hours from my house . I did the Arch too before a Yes concert so many years ago . Dan

Dan, this a Endura4 or what? I got to get me another bigger Spyderco with teeth, gave my bigger one away a year or so back... well I actually got talked out of it lol.

Mikey, just what is the red flower looking thing behind your P3 , that is a neat looking thing, sure it wouldn't make it out here where I live right now, but it sure looks neat...

Heck for 30 years of all the sprint runs, I would certainly do that again, you just want to do that sort of thing with boots on, that day I didn't have boots and my feet took a beating climbing the face of that sucker.

The repel down we just had to try and keep the guy off the tower and even between us, that was pretty cool actually, the climb of that thing was the beast.

@Jeb, Google image search says the flower is Scadoxus multiflorus or blood lily.

My wife probably received it as a gift, as our friends know that she likes plants.

As far as climbing goes, I suppose I could do it as long as my fear of falling from high places doesn't get the better of me

Couldn't find my PacSalt so old trusty is handling landscaping duties today.
