I don’t know if this is legit.
As I recall, that store has a long history of being high priced.

Yes they are legit. IIRC they may be the oldest Spyderco retailer. They often have harder to find models too.

Sort of misleading. Always been MSRP, but often a source of the rare Spydie because of it. But, because Country Knives is part of the Collector’s Club, the Spydie you get will likely have a CC# on it. Not a reason for MSRP.

That makes sense

Hey Shawn,

FYI, the BBB CPM-15V Manix CATRA tested up there with the best of them.

I just received my sample so it's my carry today.

sal
Excellent to hear on the CATRA testing. Under magnification you can see those vanadium carbides bristling on the factory edge. Sal, you Eric and the Spyderco crew did a great job on this one.

Any thoughts on the edge? Did you cut anything with it yet? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Just saw this Manix S110V knife break on Facebook. Few comments mention that S110V, Maxamet break the most and some predict 15V Manix will be worse.

Can knives break like this trying to cut plastic ties???? I would only think sideways pressure and abuse would do this.

no idea how they managed that. I've cut straps way thicker than that Manix XL's.

I don't pay attention to that. We never know what these people actually did. It's like Dr House said "Patients always lie".
I have S110V blades, really used, and they all are in one piece.

ETA : maybe we should teach to cut with the edge of a knife ?

I always think those things are done with at least some intent.

Just though it was funny, people bringing up 15v. I feel like you had to really try to snap a blade like that, even then I think it would be hard to do that.

I feel like the pivot screw would fail before the blade would snap. Who knows…

I was literally just cutting thick plastic ties off of boxes of tile with my s90v manix 2 ltwt last week.
No problems.

You could cut those ties with a long thin piece of s110v or maxamet as thin as a razor blade so long as you were smart about it.

🤦 I wish I was a fly on the wall when these knives break. You could take a thin kitchen knife outdoors and never break it assuming you are cutting with it. Anytime I have ever used a tool in a manner that it was not intended, you kinda think to yourself if this goes south it is on me. I'm not going to jump on a public forum and announce it's defective.

Now there are defects for sure, but to think all knives in that blade steel are going to break in use I don't understand.

I doubt that knife broke just cutting the strap. You might be able to do it if lifted up on the handle while the blade was under the strap but that's not how you would cut it.

Just like having the right tool for the job you also need the right techniques for the tool. With bad technique it's rather easy to damage a blade.

I have a 110V Manix 2 and wouldn't hesitate to cut strapping.
