Thanks and greetings to you in Austria. I visited Vienna during a European concert tour about 13 years ago and got to perform in the wonderful Musikverein. Your country is full of amazing history and culture. It was nice to see statues of great composers along streets named after Bruckner, Mahler, etc. I'm looking forward to visiting Vienna again, hopefully soon. I even bought a souvenir at a small knife shop there (but it wasn't a Spydie ).

Next, after almost believing I had missed the boat on this one, I had a brief opportunity to grab this CF, CPM154/S90V Para 2 sprint from a dealer. This was a 300 piece sprint run that came out of nowhere. It was very expensive, and very difficult to obtain, selling out everywhere almost instantly. But I really wanted to keep my collection of sprint run/dealer exclusive Para 2s complete, so I'm very glad to have this one.

I know my last knife was a Cat, but while browsing Amazon, I came across the Cat for $11.60 shipped. I went ahead and placed an order to see what would happen. A few days later, I got this genuine, NIB Spyderco Cat!

The pocket clip has a slightly different bend, and the clip screw needed to be tightened out of the box, but other than that, it's just as nice, solid, and well made as my $40 Cat.

I think I may have gotten one of these Cats for $30 from a dealer on eBay several months back. Mine is the jimpless type. Does you $40 one have jimping?

I believe MSRP was $469.95, and most dealers didn't discount it much at all. IIRC, the cheapest price I remember hearing was about $370 from a dealer.

Next, I found a great deal on this Sage 2. I already knew pretty much what to expect from having the Sage 1, but until this point, I was not a fan of all metal handles. So this would be my first all titanium handled knife. I also decided to continue and collect the whole Sage series. I ended up carrying it very little because I didn't want to scratch up the scales. It does see occasional carry and use, but at this point, I'd still rather not scratch it up too much.

If you ever decide to use this one more, a green scotch-brite pad (sold as pot scrubbers at the grocery store) will restore titanium to something very like an original factory matte finish; just gently rub the scuffed area using a circular motion and mild to moderate scuffs blend away. Bigger digs will still show and the finish isn't an exact match to OEM, but this technique can keep a well loved/used knife looking sharp!

As I remember, Spyderco was offered a small amount of this experimental steel from Crucible. They accepted it, and used what they had, but it only resulted in 300 finished knives. I don't know if there was a set number planned, but not much steel was available. It should perform just like S90V (it's just clad with CPM154). But I have only used mine very lightly, for opening mail, etc.

Actually, I paid a bit over $300 for mine in the luckiest score ever from New Graham Knives. I missed it when it was released, but then someone returned it, if you can believe it! I snatched it up immediately :D

That makes sense then. I didn't realize it was clad, for some reason I thought it was a mixture of the two from something I had read.

My ex used to work for Salzburg Seminar, so I got to tag along twice for her trips to Austria.

Austria is awesome! Some day I hope to go back, but for now the great memories will have to do.
