I've got to have a Charisma!
Re: I've got to have a Charisma!
for those who haven't seen. First knife shown about a minute in.
Re: I've got to have a Charisma!
I agree. I’ve come to appreciate knives which not only cut extremely well but almost disappear until you need them. The Charisma must be up there with the very best edge/weight ratio folding knives of all time.
The Alox Solo (or whatever it called now) is a great knife that gets so much right, it’s a shame it’s let down by Victorinox’s woefully soft steel.
I took mine out of rotation because the constant edge loss became frustrating. I guess that’s the problem with an abundance of amazingly capable modern steels we have available now, it’s difficult to go back to barely functional ones.

Spyderco may have just fixed that with the Charisma.Flash wrote: ↑Sun Feb 08, 2026 7:47 pmI agree. This is the bucket I'm in. In photos I've seen, the Charisma looks unimpressive - inexpensive and plasticky. Would prefer no (or smaller) opening hole on a blade this size. Not even a fan of the steel. Yet I fully intend to spend a Benjamin to obtain one, since I'm a Spyderhead and I do like thin, lightweight knives. In this case, perceived utility outweighs perceived build quality for me. Being Spyderco is Spyderco, they may negate my expectations with a quality feel in hand that I'm not expecting. They've earned this sort of trust over the years--I put more faith in their design ability than in my own judgment of it.

inexpensive and plasticky. = that is what people keep telling me they don't like about the regular size basic Griptillian .
I say they don''t appreciate the design which is : big handle / strong enough / plenty light (only gives the impression of plasticy because of the way the hollow handle sounds while handling it . I LOVE THAT KNIFE !
looks unimpressive = so does a scalpel . ( I actually like looking at the sleek Charisma )
prefer no (or smaller) opening hole on a blade this size.= yep could be a failure point ( we have to assume they tested the bajeezes out of it , like they always do and it will be just fine (with this steel alloy ) .

@Wowbagger
Forgive me if I’m being dense, but do you like the Charisma, or maybe want to give it a try?
I'm being wishy washy .
Or my favorite Douglas Adams word : ineffable .
Let us see if we can not eff it after all .
I believe part of a WC Fields line that comes to mind can apply here :
_______ . Ahhhh _________ .
__________ are like elephants ; nice to look at wouldn't want to own one .
The word I left out is not a bad word . Far from it . But the phrase might offend some of our readers .
Not at all what I want to have happen .
PS : as a bicycle commuter of over fifty years might I suggest plugging in the word " automobile" .
There that should take some of the heat off .

I would by this in 15V imediately

Re: I've got to have a Charisma!
I really like this knife, thin blade and relatively affordable.
That handle is off putting though. I haven’t found a knife I’ve liked with hollow plastic handles before.
I’m 50/50 on this one

Buddy, this in Magnamax, or even Magnacut would be the bees knees, especially in stonewash! I cry when I scratch satin. Looks like a beater and so hard to “correct,” though with FRN scales, I guess it’s meant to be a beater!Bolster wrote: ↑Fri Feb 06, 2026 5:58 pmJayrod1980 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 06, 2026 9:13 amI want one too. Hope it sells well so we can get a few with a more premium steel.
I'm guessing with the hole taking so much real estate, we'd be looking at premium steels that lean toward "tough" rather than "hard." Can you imagine that knife in Maxamet or Rex121?

Native 5 in FRN or Sage 5 are superb in FRN. I don’t tend to like FRN either but it can be done right

To me the Charisma is Spyderco's take on a Texas Toothpick. I think it would work well in a suit jacket or vest inner breast pocket, and maybe even, being so light, in a shirt pocket.
The side view kind of reminds me of older Al Mar designs, like the Hawk.
It's the most tempting knife in the reveal for me.

Re: I've got to have a Charisma!
I wonder how many will be sent back because they’ve broken across the Spydie hole like the Z-cuts?
What is Spyderco’s policy on knives breaking through normal cutting / slicing use?
