I've enjoyed following Ericasedc and find myself checking in with her channel when considering a purchase. Her remarks about sharpening are interesting and helpful. Her emphasis on using different approaches for different steels is interesting!

That was a great review by Erica and she put that knife through things many of us might not do with ours. It’s good to see reviews like this after real world experience.
Delica 4 FFG
Paramilitary 2 DLC Digicam
Brad Southard flipper. Was MIA but found 7 years later.
Sharpmaker
Gayle Bradley 2.

Strange that you don't see many people talking about the stonewash finish that comes on these, which is really nice.

I hope one day we see 15V in a production fixed blade from Spyderco. A 15V Jumpmaster would just be mind bendingly good!

New review vid for the Delica in PD#1:

Slighly unrelated to the original Rex-121 / 15V content, but thought it was worthwhile to post since she calls out the Spyderco community (i.e. this forum) as well as Eric and Sal in a very kind way. Very cool. I'm thankful to everyone here who continued to extend a welcoming gesture to this reviewer (and others as well) as it seems that hasn't always been the case in their experience.

Going to have to keep an eye out for something in PD#1!

Great video's, just an answer to why S110V, just my uses, has been its better corrosion resistant, as I carry some of these others, especially the side of the blade against my leg, as I carry them, seems my sweat vapor really gets to working overtime on the corrosion of the blade.

I guess I am a sweaty hog. It gets really hot here in the desert of Texas. The S110V has always stayed clean... Erica asked why they even make the S110V and that is the reason I like it, that and the fact you can get it in 4" blade Spyderco folders...

Erica has an interesting little channel… she does real world testing, leatherwork under her own brand (pocket slips for traditionals, wallets, etc.) and she helps small custom makers design and market fixed blades (basically just for the love of it).

She has talent for everything she does, but also has that special something that makes for a compelling channel. It’s one of those small channels that has an outsized influence on the direction of edc and knife culture.

She is what I describe as real world. She really is quite knowledgeable about this stuff. Seems most willing to share with those of us that want to know.

I follow Ericasedc...and she helped direct me to purchase the Spring Run BBB S15v Delica...and just today I went for it and bought the Sage 5 in REX 121. While I have enough skills to sharpen D2 knives to hair shaving sharp...I'm ill equipped to touch S15V, M398 (Urban - Super steel for cheap) and now the REX 121. I lan on simply shipping them to Spyderco to get them back up to speed (should they EVER need sharpening).
Does anyone else out the rely on the Spyderco Sharpening service ? or are most of you super talented and well equipped with the right tools and DIY ?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

... I don't think there is a CPM15V Delica?
Perhaps you mean the Para3 in that steel or the K390 Delica?

... Not a sharpening expert, but from all I read I think if you can sharpen D2 well, you'll also be able to do so with the supersteels you mentioned?
It will "just" take more time and perhaps you should get diamond plates/rods if you don’t have such?
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10), Chaparral SE (CTS XHP)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)

No. I couldn't imagine asking someone else to sharpen a knife for me.

I bought a second-hand Sage in REX 121 and it was dull, I sent it to Spyderco for sharpening because I didn't have any diamond stones but somehow my manhood stayed intact, despite asking someone else to sharpen a knife for me.

Skills can be developed through practice and the right tools are not super exotic or expensive. It is liberating to be able to sharpen a knife.

The 204 Sharpmaker is a great place to begin, and also get the diamond or the CBN rods for damage repair and for reprofiling edges.

I use coarse diamond plates for making big changes to plain edges; they’re a lot faster than the Sharpmaker.

Why not?

You can get a diamond stone for basically the same price as shipping a knife to Colorado.

That'll put an edge on these high hardness steels in a couple minutes tops, easily.
May you find peace in this life and the next.
