I have a few of SNK's 4v exclusives, but I skipped the previous manix 2 and native chief in the hopes that they'll do the LW models. I am greatly pleased to see the manix 2 lw as it is one of my favorites. I do hope they revisit the delica one day with this combo since we've already seen the jester done.

I know they've done a Jester but why not a Red Ladybug or a Ladybug Hawkbill in Plain edge.

Is the finish DLC on this one? The Goddard was not, can anybody tell me what the type of coating was on the Goddard 4V SNK?

4V Goddard had titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating, which is what the Seki City factory uses.

I paid about $156 for a g10 15v manix a year ago...
$135 for a lw in overrated 4v? Lol nope.

You know that even the BD1N Manix 2 LW costs more in the US with a coated blade?
I think Manixes have pretty good prices anyway in general, but this 4V one is an amazing deal imo.
And I admit I am not a steel expert, but Spydercos 4V in my Goddard is anything else but "overrated" as far as I can tell.

I think the cost thing has come up before with exclusives like this. Correct me if I am wrong, but they commission these far in advance of a release. Pricing during the commission/contract is set at that time. So it is possible when you see an exclusive like this released we are looking back in time maybe a year or two from a price standpoint depending on the time to fulfill the special batch.

I did not know that indeed.
Still, since BD1N is a steel Spyderco uses a lot more than 4V, that could lead to the former being more cost efficient to them?!
(Better prices due to buying larger quantities?)
And perhaps BD1N is easier to work with while 4V wears out grinding wheels and the like quicker?
Both points just guesses, I´ll happily stand corrected.
In any case: Though I really like BD1N, 4V is a better steel for me.

You are correct, the raw cost of steel is not the only factor. 4V is all vanadium carbide while BD1N has little to no vanadium carbide, while it does have a fair amount of chromium carbide which is far less difficult to grind in general. How much of a difference that makes Spyderco in production is something only they could comment on.

I would have thought the ingot (BD1N) vs powder (4v) production difference would make 4v more expensive.

It was my understanding that BD1N is actually a powder steel but I can't recall where I may have seen that or what the source is. I remember being surprised when I read that as I thought it was not powder steel.
