I think that’s the biggest discontinued list ever and mostly knives made in China, Japan and Taiwan. Is the Byrd line gone? Not much being discontinued that’s made in US except for Waterway. Chaparral CF used to be very popular but at $168 people may have opted for the FRN for $116.90.

Does anyone know if the Sage 5 CF currently has the upgraded pivot system as the LW?

Another member recently said it was CQI'd not long ago. I hadn't heard that but could've missed it somewhere. I have a first run Sage 5 CF and considered looking for a updated one. After handling the one I have I decided it wasn't worth the hassle of trying to find one that's actually the updated version. The action is fine on mine. The tiny difference is a non-issue for me

In addition to the Waterway, the stones at the beginning of the list are also US made. I got the same impression. Comparatively, almost nothing US made was discontinued.

Watu is underappreciated, and cool design. A steal at clearance prices.
Surprised the jazz Wharncliffe models in k390 got cut so soon. Figured they'd be the ideal configuration.
Nothing in the US was discontinued because there's only a few models made in the US anyways, and they're the core models?
The benchstones are legendary, but probably not that popular anymore.

Delica4 and Endura4 are very popular models but I guess just way too many variations specially once you include the related Salt2 and Pacific Salt2. Thinning the herd.
Many knives are not selling after prices were raised noticeably in January 2022 and 2023.

I looked at BladeHQ for Spyderco and it lists the number of models by Country of Origin (not 100% accurate but it’s an indication - Byrd not included in China models) and USA is just behind Japan:
- Japan (328)
- USA (296)
- China (116)
- Taiwan (96)
- Italy (17)

KnifeCenter has a page for Spyderco items on sale which includes the newly discontinued ones. Chaparral CF for $123.65 instead of the usual $168.00. Chaparral Sun & Moon for $144.26 instead of the usual $196.00.

I wonder if the large number of value line & Byrd models in 8Cr13MoV being disco'ed means the possible move from 8Cr13MoV to 9Cr18MoV that Sal said they were considering several months ago is finally happening, or if they're withdrawing from that segment altogether to focus on their more premium offerings.
Kind of sad to see so many K390 models getting the axe as well. I love K390 & hoped to see it get wider adoption in the knife community as I think it is the best non-stainless high wear resistance tool steel for a folding knife (yes, even better than my beloved Cru-Wear and M4). But non-stainless is always a tough sell to the non-AFI crowd (apart from the recent D2 budget folder craze, which I personally think was some sort of anomaly)

Between that, and choice of scale color maybe? I know some of the guys I know that are into knives, are intimidated by K390 (novice sharpening skills and/or equipment) But I do know none of them cared for my K390 Endela when I had that for while, because of the hue of blue. I'm willing to bet if they used a blue comparable to the KnifeJoy exclusives, they would have fared a bit better in sales.

I think the K390 discontinuation says more about the edge and shape more than the steel. Looks like SE and Wharncliffes are the real losers here. Plain edge is staying around. So I am guessing SE and Wharncliffe blades are just not selling that well.

I admittedly used to think they were strange looking, compared to how strange Spyderco's already look haha...then I got ahold of a few, and became my favorites! I wish more people would give them a chance. Game changers for warehouse work!

I don't believe a steel change (only) has ever led to a new sku, and they only get marked discontinued if the sku is.

				Oof.
I’ve been waiting for over two years for the Waterway to go back into production.
That’s a bit of a let down.

Good point. I like the blue used on the Seki K390 knives because it adds variety to my mostly black-handled collection, but yeah, I can see how it can turn off potential buyers, especially if it's going to be their "one good knife". Personally, clip finish is more important to me than handle scale colour. I like matte/stonewashed clips and non-reflective black clips as they blend in better with the earth-toned & dark gray pants that I favour wearing for work.

I always forget about the discontinued lists and there are some real gems on this one.
Unfortunately for me, because they don’t seem to have a lot of staying power overall, I very much like wharncliffes and SE.
The Rockjumper’s on sale are a good price.
Great knife design, but I’m happy that the Leafjumpers are still around for now.
I’m very curious about a lot of these, especially the Byrds (but not only them).
Will we see some of them updated?
Seems like some big changes at least!
I wonder if maybe we’ll get more info in the next SpyderByte or Reveal?
I am now even more intrigued to see what’s new and planned for the future.
For example, will there be new abrasive stones/plates introduced to replace the ceramic grits? Fine CBN or diamond maybe?

Ah, that's too bad. I was hoping the Waterway and the Siren being disco'ed (the latter from last year's list) meant they were going to be reintroduced as MagnaCut models.

Could still happen with a 2nd generation update. Siren sales ended so bad though I don't think that will come back (sad to say being the owner of three myself)

Totally agree, I got a K390 Endura wharncliffe kinda by accident (wanted the k390 endela and the dealer mixed up the box and didnt realize until I got home an hours drive away) ended up being my favorite knife to actually use, I carry it more than any of my others which is surprising as I generally hate FRN and wont buy anything with it unless I swap the scales.
Have Canis which is also great and a smock which is more reverse tanto but those endura/endela/delica wharncliffes are just amazing and the K390 is awesome, wish more knives came in it. I think I need to pick up some spares now just in case something happens to mine as it really feels irreplaceable, love my PM2, Shaman, Manix, etc, they are popular for a reason but the wharnie is just far more useful IMO
