An unreleased unrevealed compression lock PM2 XL Military 1.1 wins
American Made Knife of the Year LOL that is nothing to brag about, since american knife industry looks in such a sad state
Emerson is re-releasing some model from 25 years ago in

CPM154
Spyderco is re-releasing 2 sprints and turning yellow into green FRN handles for a couple of models
ZT kinda went off the radar
Since 2015 Overall Knife of the Year was won by italian designs
Last american one that I liked was 2008 winner Chris Reeve Knives Umnumzaan and I have one.
Chris Reeve also went off the radar wife
retired him
And generally speaking the interesting pieces well made with nice materials are released now by chinese high-end manufacturers
I'd be much more interested to know if
SPY27 Military Sal was talking about some time ago will make it into that mythical production queue, during our lifetime that is...
Wow! That’s quite a condemnation (if perhaps marinated overmuch in unmet entitlement).
But, then, I’m just a geezer who’s glad to get a really good knife.
The Military Model 2 may be just that. I love the original and didn’t want it changed (such that history might be torn down in favor of the new), but it seems the knife industry wanted this change, even before the “compression lock PM2 XL Military 1.1” is officially out the gate.
I will doubtless give one a try; or three, with interesting steels. I love my PM2s and am curious about a bigger one, so a similar one will serve to scratch that itch.
EDIT TO ADD: Congrats, Team Glesser.

Congratulations, Spyderco!
Now, will I ever buy one myself? *shrug* Maybe someday.

Stealthy reveal. I like liner locks but the Military model ran its course as do all models. This iteration looks promising! I'd like to see the specs.

I disagree that the Military has run its course. It’s oos and people keep asking where to buy one. It’s a fantastic work/outdoors knife. Maybe overkill for the office

Those who want more of an "office Millie" will get it with the comp.lock Millie 2 imo.
(Not meant negatively, but, as said in another thread, for convenience and safety of operation in
outdoor use, the great (Millie) linerlock will always be the better choice in my view).
Anyway: CONGRATS Spyderco!! Well deserved!

There it is. Congrats on the award. Looks like a winner.
I'm still hoping we'll see a stop lock Military someday (Patent Military?). Probably one of the few, now. Compression lock has really taken off in the last 20 years.

I initially thought the handle looked like it was changed a lot but maybe not. The butt end reminds me more of a Para 2 now but it's pretty similar to the original. The choil is obviously changed and is larger, I'll have to handle it to know if I like that or not.

I already know that new choil will work a lot better for me.

I’d settle for a production PM2 SPY27…

I like the Military 2, and think that Spyderco has released a lot of cool knives over the last few years. That being said, Gsg9 is not wrong.

Congrats to Spyderco! But is this award granted on a base of a prototype, or a serial production piece?
… I don’t know how this all works, but is changing a lock on an - undoubtedly excellent, but existing design enough to beat all of the competition?

Good question. I'd love to see a complete list of the candidates!

i'm not sure why people think it's ruined. it's only marginally different. it's a different lock, and has more clip positions and a bigger choil. the changes are hardly earth shattering. how is it ruined?

I seem to remember Sal saying that the liner lock Military will still be kept in the lineup, along with the Military 2. So the Military hasn’t been ruined. Plus, as you say, other than the lock change, the changes in the Military 2 from the original are marginal.

You will need an instagram account to see this video but this is the only in-hand video I've seen and a direct comparison to the Military.

Military 2 in-hand video and Military comparison...
Edit: I didn't even notice that LadyBug had already linked the video...oops!

Thanks for the video link. I could see it without an account. However, if you do want to see some Insta stuff without an account, google "instagram viewer". Enter the name of the account and it will pull up the images/videos for you.

I’m definitely buying one, its like a larger PM2. The PM2 is just a bit too small for my hands and this looks perfect.
