I've remained Chief complete up to this point, but M390 is not a compelling steel and full MSRP is painful.
T15 and Rex 76 are extremely interesting, but I wish they'd just put them straight into a large folder (like the Chief). I'd pay $250-290 for those without complaint.

The UKPK has a new pattern for the serrations. It gained one big "wave" and lost a part of the PE at the tip.

I'm in the opposite boat. I have nothing but tool steel Chiefs, like 4V, M4 and Rex45, so a very stainless option is welcome. I know I could pick up an S90V run, and maybe I should, but I like the idea of swapping a coated m390 blade into the 4V red handle and using that as my corrosion resistant chief.

Digging the Wharncliffe Endela. Seeing those new steels on the Mules is cool too.
I was really hoping for some Magnacut though.

If the Native Chief is Direct from Spyderco only, does that mean it will be billed at full MSRP?
That’s how it has been for the Sprint PM2 Colorado Flag from June 2021 at MSRP of $260 with no discounts.
Bummer, was hoping this would be in line with the Manix M390 with Earth Brown. Wouldn't make sense to pass up the standard version in S30V. Or the Cutlery Shoppe Exclusive that is still available!
Hi Kristi,
please would you confirm if this is the case?
I don't see there any statement that these will be available at SFO or spyderco.com only as it is for Mules. Just "consumer direct only".
Thanks,
Mick

Hi, Mick:
Consumer-direct is the same thing - only available through SFO or Spyderco.com. The two Native Chief Sprints are consumer-direct only through SFO or Spyderco.com and there will be no additional discounts (like other consumer-direct products). The "No Additional Discounts" tag only appears once an item is in stock and can be added to someone's cart.
I hope this helps clear things up.
Kristi

I'd like a M390 Chief but 290 plus tax is a little steep.

$290 is for the DLC. Satin is “only” $250.
The Cutlery Shoppe exclusive Native Chief with CTS-XHP Black DLC Blade & Orange G-10 was just $189 in April 2021. It’s out of stock now but the Satin is still in stock for $175.

I'd want the DLC, I'll see how my wallet and I feel about it when it drops. I've had my eye on a CF Caly ZDP-189 so that may end up getting my dollars instead.

That is certainly a surprise on the Chiefs being consumer direct with no discounts. It makes sense if OpsFocus folks could grab them at a discount, but I can't see too many people plunking down full MSRP on those. The Chief seems to be a slower seller as it is, and M390 isn't nearly the draw it used to be. I can see these sitting for a LOONG time.
I really wonder why they did they did this? I mean I get that they now get $250 a knife vs selling them to distributors for much less. But I recall awhile back someone saying they didn't sell direct because they didn't want to compete with their dealers. Maybe that was they didn't want to sell direct at MAP or less (OpsFocus discount), but selling at full MSRP means they aren't really a direct competitor.
I just hope this isn't a sign of things to come. I really don't want to have to pay full MSRP on sprints. They are getting expensive as-is at MAP pricing.

maybe this was a commissioned exclusive that had the vendor drop out?

Brown G-10 with either M390 or S35VN has historically been a Moteng distributor exclusive.

Is Sportsman's Supply inc no longer a distributor? I can't remember if they were on the dealer locator list.

Yeah I wondered what happened there. Strange that it’s a sprint now and consumer direct only. There’s gotta be some backstory drama there…

I will get a PITS, my first M390 knife. I already have a couple of Chiefs so I will pass, I wish they are serrated.

What pictures are you referring to? Comparing the catalogue pictures both have the same number of big "waves" (6) and the same number of small waves (5 doublewaves).
When you compare the knives' pages on the Spyderco website you will notice that the green knife's Overall Length is
6.92" (176mm) compared to the yellow knife's 6.88" (175mm). Also the green's Blade Length is 3.00" (76mm) whereas the yellow's is 2.93" (74mm).
The edge length however is identical 2.58" (66mm).
So IMHO the cutting part of the blade should be similar but the ricasso/finger-choil part might be bigger on the green one.

I compared the picture in the reveal with the real knife. And the picture in the reveal has a different pattern.
That the pattern, in the pictures, in all revels/catalogs,is the same but different to th ereal knife. So I now assume, that the pattern has not changed but still is different to the one shown in the reveals/catalogs.
