The "new and improved" Starmate appears on the Spyderco website,
but is not included in the recently released 2016 catalog.
So, I guess it is to be discontinued.
Not sure if that has any significance. Just throwing it in.

Its interesting Spyderco is willing to take a hit in business just because a few retailers are collectively whining about Amazon.

The Military is currently selling for $110 on Amazon. After MAP, it will jump to $150, that will have a dramatic effect on sales.

MAP won't necessarily change the selling price, just the advertised price. It may turn out that the low overhead sellers decide to not bother selling Spyderco anymore because of the extra hassle. That would result in a general price increase. Otherwise, all it does is throw a roadblock in the way of ELUs looking for a bargain. My guess is that it will hurt sales some, cost buyers some, and benefit higher overhead sellers some, but probably the amounts aren't going to be huge. I do know that I quit buying Benchmade when they did their MAP thing ... I was much more likely to pull the trigger when I stumbled onto a great deal than when I had to go hunt one down on purpose.

It occurred to me a little belatedly (I'm a little slow on the uptake about these things) that these specials and advertisements need not stop at the onset of MAP next year because the advertised prices were well over 60% of MSRP:

MSRP = 309.95
Advertised price at STP = 199.95, 64.5% of MSRP
Coupon price = 149.96, 48.3% of MSRP

ULIZE
MSRP = 255.95
Advertised price at STP = 159.95, 62.5% of MSRP
Coupon price = 119.96, 46.9% of MSRP

My email notification from STP showed the MSRPs, their list prices, and the fact that you could use a 25%-off coupon, all of which I think would be allowed under the MAP agreement, so, if Sierra Club deals stop, I don't think it'll be because of MAP :D

I was always loved and still love my G10 Caly3. I carried it for more than 4 years. It was replaced with Caly3.5.
I bought my first Caly3 CF/ZDP189, when they came out, but uneven laminated lines bothered me and I never carried that knife. I sold it about a year ago along with about 50 knives from my "collection", when I needed cash. Recently I bought it again and love it. So far this is the only knife, which I bought back. If Massdrop will hit $99.99 mark, possibly I will buy one more. :)

If I hadn't just bought almost everything my little heart desired :) I would get one of the $99 ones. I have the gray G-10/SB 3 and the CF/ZDP189 3.5 and sometimes I prefer the little bit of extra thinness of the CF and the blade proportions of the 3. My lamination lines on the 3.5 are not quite perfect but close enough not to bother me.
