ATR Poll

I definitely don't like the original clip, and I'm curious to see what they're going to use on the new version. I'm all for new and unique pocket clips, but that old one is definitely not the best. I don't even mind if they use a brand new clip, as long as it looks good, and functions well. :)

I thought this was going to be "To G-10 or not to G-10, that is the question?". I'm new and I've looked over lots of old designs, the ATR was one that interested me because of how different it looked. I'm a weirdo like that I guess. Before I forget, thank you Sal for giving us newbies a reference to discontinued models and Sprint runs on your site.

The ATR was one that really caught my attention, beautiful in the simplicity of the design. It has to have holes like the original but with G-10. Sorry, I like the extra texture and it makes it a little different than the original. I'm thinking that beautiful blue G-10 that was used on the Sage 3 with the black Carbon Nitride coating would look stellar.

Oh, please bring back the "S" only slightly bigger with a 3" blade. The "S" might be the weirdest and at the same time coolest folder I've ever seen!

I voted with holes by the way, but I wish G-10 was an option, I'd swear I read about that somewhere here in the last week or so!

That Gunting clip sure is strange. Not sure I'd go for that one either, but I doubt I'd crusade against it like I do the ATR clip. It's evil. It wants to eat every jean, khaki, and dungaree alive! It's a monster! It's a shame though, because I actually do like the look of it...but only when it's not clipped to my pocket. It is a bit much hanging out there, much like that Gunting clip seems like it would be. My style is much more subdued, hence my preference for a wire clip. The standard hourglass is nice too, but I think for the ATR a wire clip would look better. But hey, that's just me. It's highly likely that whatever form the new sprint takes, I'm going to get one. Even if it's G10, the old clip, and no holes, I'll still have a really hard time saying no.

Edit to make sense: I thought about the Jester, and I went with the Ladybug instead for FFG. Someday though, when I have more keys. :)

Were there G10 scales on both sides of this preproduction ATR? "Unsure If Ready"


If there are G10 scales over liners on BOTH sides (and not like integrated Frame/Compression-lock like original), then I'd say ATLEAST have the liners skeletonized in the old ATR holes pattern, this way if it came with solid unholy G10, the end user/consumer could drill & countersink his/her G10 scales or get a custom scales done with holes to match skeletonized liners.
(Would be more work and possibly void warranty for those of us that do want holes, but could possibly please wider group of people).

I'm positive I'll love any ATR Spyderco produces, whether or not it has any holes. These poll results are very interesting though. I honestly thought the voting would be a bit more even. As of right now the holes have 88%. Maybe we need a poll about the pocket clip now? Or PE or SE? :)

Ha I think it's abundantly clear how a pocket clip poll would go, I'm not sure anyone likes the old style, and there's no reason for spyderco to go out of their way to include it. I think you can also rest assured that they'll go PE on a sprint run due to it being more generally popular.

I'm also a little surprised that this poll isn't a bit more even.

Yeah, I have no experience with the old pocket clip, but I do like how it lines up with the holes.

I know most people hate the old clip, but it would still be nice to have a poll to decide what clip to use. I wouldn't mind a wire clip, or even a regular hourglass clip.
