I missed the part about him calling you stupid for the lock failing. Sorry. Yes, it could be stupidity, but also, and probably was, liner lock not fully engaged. I really don't like liner locks.

I'd also love to see a CBBL folder with a blade just under 3". I can't wait for the CBBL sage. :)

And am I the only one who finds it ironic that ARKnight signs his posts "AK" ?
Yeah-even I find it ironic :) I have two Armalites and two Noveskes and a seemingly endless amount of paraphernalia for both brands and I don't own even one Kalashnikov (nothing against them, to each their own)
I was actually kinda waiting for someone to notice :) so thanks:)

Yea one of my biggest issues with liner locks (and and others that use a ball detent) is the "false lock" you can get when the detent ball slips past the blade tang before the lock actually engages. Obviously this isn't a huge issue, and is worked around by a controlled opening and generally noticing what state your tool is in before using it, but it remains a design quirk that I don't really love. Although of course back locks have their own disadvantages (vertical blade play, stronger self close), I like how they have a consistent feel until opening. Again it's all preference, like anything else, which advantages you value over the disadvantages it comes with. For instance I don't do any really messy cutting, so a flow through design isn't all that important to me.

I don't think anyone was calling anyone directly stupid. Accidents happen with knives and with cars. KnifeCenter has reviews from customers about Emersons failing to lock open, and without the flames starting here, I love everything about my CQC13, except the lock. I haven't sold it, I stored it, it's with my prizes. It just bit me once and I carry that scar now. I didn't start this thread for it to be a bash fest. I guess an easy rendition to this issue would be an over-travel stop. I watched the liner lock move from the center of the pivotal point to the far side of the pivotal point, almost like the lock failed to make contact with the blade as it moved further and further over. I used it's wave feature quite a bit and maybe beating the crap out of it everyday was just an accident waiting to happen?
I emailed Emerson about it and never got a reply. Oh well...

I think that everyone has locks they prefer and locks they like less. Try to remember that all of them are works-in-progress. The lock-back, though it has been around for a while, is still seeing improvement (eg: Native 5). Walker Linerlocks have also come a long way since their first intro back inthe 70's. We're always fighting the "pinch" on Compression locks, but we constantlyh work on it and it too is improving. Interesting that a few thou can make a difference. Ball bearing locks have gone through a number of refinements. The Stop lock, Power lock and roto-wedge locks asre also being worked on.

Some like some locks and some like others, and some like no locks at all. That's why we make so many. :D

Hi Sal,

That Walker Liner lock has seen one heck of a lot of improvement as you said, had some of those knives back in the 70's. :D

Definitely huge improvements over the years concerning all the different locks. Hey Sal, as mentioned earlier in the thread about a possibility of a smaller PM2.. Anyway you could fire up production and have one finished by February 18? I'd love to have one for my birthday.. Thanks man!! Haha!! :) :)

Compression lock is probably my favorite these days although I use and appreciate many other lock types. At least for right handed folks it avoids any need to have fingers in the path of the blade when you close it and a number of non-knife types borrow a blade from me from time to time and it puts me at ease that they are not likely to cut themselves.

The upcoming ATR sprint sounds awesome, and I would be interested in just about anything else the spydercrew decides to do with a compression lock. If dreaming is allowed for a moment how about a H-1 Civilian with compression lock?

Yes! Right there is one big reason why Spyderco is so universally loved by its users!
Something for everyone.
I for one love variety rather than a one horse show. So please keep doing what you're doing to evolve and progress! :spyder:

My current favorite knife is the YO2. It probably gets at least 75% of my pocket time, impressive as I have a decent sized collection to choose from. Part of the attraction is the compression lock. I love the lock and, maybe I'm just lucky, but I have never pinched myself with it. I also have 3 PM2s and have never had a problem with those either.

You know, to each his/her own. Like every lock there will be some who like it and some who do not. This is why we have options. That is, IMHO, a very good thing. Should Spyderco decide to expand the line of knives with compression locks, I will be very interested in those offerings.

I'm going to actually carry and use my Para 2 (it's a couple years old and still brand new) just so I can get used to the lock and not be a dumbass. :o I'll let you know how it turns out.

Compression lock is one of my favorites, in fact I haven't met a :spyder: lock yet that I don't like, cant wait for the ATR, it will make a nice addition to the collection for sure.
Happy to be part of this great forum and group of down to earth spyderco addicts, Thanks Sal and gang.
