For me, there are very few models I feel we need back that have not already been discussed in this thread or mentioned that Spyderco is already considering one. Very few with the exception of the Phoenix. I would love to see this one rise from the ashes again! :p :D

I would still like a Mariner Salt, or possibly a Herbst, but those I wouldn't ask for unless Spyderco saw a potential to really sell them.

OH Dear Lord Above!!!! One of my Holy Grail Spyders to be sure!!! the C-56 Tim Zowada!! There is a lot of things you could do to that model to make it absolutely the quintescential tactical cool guy of all time. The only 2 models I put ahead of it are the old Benchmade model 640 Boguszewski Spike and the Spyderco C-50 Centofante. I've yet to see a streamlined tactical/ultra-useful blade to surpass any of those 3 models.

But the Zowada has come back in a Sprint model with CF handle and VG-10 steel. I would love to see it with a colored Micarta handle and one of the supersteels like S90V, XHP or even a really well done D-2 or M-4 blade. There is so much you could do to that classic of all Spyder Classics.

MatthewSB DUDE!! you're speaking my language. Because I love a knife that is utilitarian useful and a good Self Defense blade as well. There aren't many you could give that description to. The C-60 Ayoob is in the same league as that blade but few others are. You got a big HIGH FIVE on that one MatthewSB!!!

+1 on the Herbst
Don't mess with the Spyder because you think you're fly.

Chapman I overlooked your picks of the IMPALA and SPOT models. Many people who collect Spyders don't even know that there was a variant of the SPOT model that you just can't find anymore and I think it more than qualifies for an "OBSCURE" model. The one SPOT variant I'm speaking of is the one with the Micarta handle and VG-10 blade. I had 2 of those at one time and like a fool I traded both of them.

But if they were to bring back the SPOT I would go again with a MICARTA handle and an S90V blade and offer it up in Spyderedge and plain edge.

The IMPALA on the other hand I've got plans for it that would make it the paramount hunter/folder. Like the one Brother suggested I would have one variant with a guthook and combo edge and one variant with a full plain edge ( without guthook)>> I would also go with a Micarta handle similar to the one that was on the original ATS-55 big C-44 Dyad. Because for a premium hunter/folder you want something very solid and ridgid. Oh and I think I would go with some type of tool steel blade like D-2 or M-4.

Come on folks there are more obscure, older discontinued models than you all realize. And I bet many of you have had some of them at one time or another.

I still want to see the Temperance 1, FB05 model either in the H-1 Salt Series or maybe in a new tactical sheath with CPM110V blade steel or maybe S90V. Because I truly think that the TEMP 1 truly set the stage for many of the new fixed blades and most certainly the MULE models you all hold dear to your hearts. And the TEMP 1 is so far removed from everyone's minds that it has been an obscure model for a long, long time now.

Hey "xceptnl" ol buddy with all due respect I don't think you quite get the jest of what I'm trying to do on this thread. It's not so much that I want the models just to simply return again per se but it's more like "how do we correct what went wrong the first time around"??. Because I'm convinced that at least 6 of these models we're talking about would have been box office winners had they simply been dressed up better with better blade steels and better handles.

Because with the ADVENTURA and SPUR both being stainless handled model for instance I think were set back from the beginning because there are a lot of people that just don't like stainless handles. I think if some models were presented in a better light and with different attire I think it would be a whole new ball game.

Not to mention some of these obscure models were not bad designs at all. They just didn't get the chance they deserved in my opinion. And many of them just got overshadowed by models that were superstars when certain models hit the main line up.

Take the C-54 big Calypso for instance which by today's standards was a gorgeous design which should have sold well>> but it was completely overshadowed by at least 4 models that were selling like gangbusters during that time in the late 90s when it was on the market. It had the unfortunate circumstance of being beat out by members of it's own team. I hope you see what I'm getting at.

I see I missed the true focus of your original thread topic, however I was thinking what you were... I just neglected to expound further. Though I wasn't around for most of the golden era spydies when they were new, I still feel that the models I mentioned were probably short-lived. I do not know the actual sales numbers, however I feel that each of them could benefit from currently available and cutting edge materials.

There was a revamped Sprint Run of the SHABARIA around 2011 or thereabout.

The SHABARIA is a model I'm fond of because it was out of the GOLDEN ERA OF SPYDERS ( 1998-2003). There were so many super models during that time period that just stood out. And it's in that time period that I've found most of the Spyders that I have put in the "obscure" category and would like to see revamped with new/better materials.

I've been waiting very patiently for a newly revamped Lil Temperance model to come forth. As much of a cult following as it has I'm surprised that hasn't happened. But I'm sure a resurrected Lil Temperance would be a high dollar undertaking.
