FWIW, From Spydiewiki -

"Howes Knife Shop dealer Exclusive. First Spyderco to offer the CPM-S90V/CPM-154 composite. Howes plans to offer other models in the same blade material."

What do you guys think the "E" stands for in C81CFPE2?

Hoping this is a distributer sprint/exclusive, and it will be available via other channels to those of us stranded in NY...

If it's a dealer exclusive, as post #40 says, it's exclusive to Howe's.

I know of only one, and it hasn't even gotten to the market yet - Benchmade 940-1. The manufacturer has stated that it will be regular production when it starts shipping later this year.

As far as I know, this is the first CPM 154 we've seen from Spyderco and it's just being used as a laminate.

I may buy one but for me it is just a knife in the way of my M4 or cruwear para2. I appreciate the innovation and agree that the laminate on my SB delica scratches far to easy. I don't need the laminate for stain resistance as I prefer carbon steels anyway and I do not need it for its strength or toughness gains in a pocket sized folder because they do not see extremely hard use. I would love to understand the benefits that laminated steel could have in a larger knife where chopping is involved. Something like a camp knife that was 1/4 inch thick with a thin core (1-2mm)of m4 or something and the rest O1 or something. I am not as excited about the knife as much as I am excited about domestic makers developing the technology.

I'm really interested to have another Para 2 sprint with S90V and to try this new laminate steel. Ed makes it sound like the best of both worlds.

I'm happy to see Howe's first Exclusive, too.

We thought there were going to be no interesting Para sprints for a while.

E= edge PE = plain edge

I'm not sure it's going to be a dealer exclusive. Why would anybody think that? Even Howes list it as "sprint run".

Just because Howes is the first shop to list it doesn't make it a Howes exclusive.

No idea, I'm just posting what was on the spydiewiki.

Hopefully something else sets this knife apart, I mean there was already a s90v CF PM2. Is this going to be virtually the same thing but with laminate? Also, I was thinking PE meant plain edge however no other models have the E in there name...so..idk.

Wasn't the small fly CPM 154 or am I mistaking this for 154CM?

Yea, like ultra thin blade geometry to take advantage of the laminate.

Still its interesting and the pure collectors will be all over it. Ill pick one up if im fast enough.

There are a few of us that contribute to Spydiewiki. I made the post on there about this run. While Howes calls it a "sprint run", many places use that as a blanket term that covers sprints and exclusives.

What made me think that this is a Howes exclusive is that the description says, "We do have plans to produce additional products with this steel, just not in the ParaMilitary2 configuration." To me, this statement says, "We produced the Para 2 run. We will also produce other knives with this steel in the future." If Howes is the one having the run produced, that tells me it's a dealer exclusive. Perhaps I'm reading into it a bit.

Notwithstanding Howe's use of the word "sprint," I read the whole text together the same way you did - but it's more or less a guess at this point.

I sent an email to Howes and Jim emailed me back within 5 minutes. :spyder:

I quote -

"We received an email from Spyderco telling of this new upcoming release in a limited run of 300. After collectors dealers according to email will only receive 1 or 2 of their premiers, not all of them and certainly no additional orders. We put this up for the purpose of letting our customers know if they want to try and search one out. At the most we might have 2, my guess is we will only get 1. Sorry but we do not take pre orders."

I read the description as a cut and paste from how Spyderco probably described it to the dealer.

Thanks for clarifying. I updated the wiki entry to reflect this.

They should have made at least 305 of them. ;)

Probably (this is a guess, though) because there isn't enough steel to do more. Remember, this is a brand new, essentially experimental venture.
