Brand New ENDURA has EDGE NICK: What should I do everyone?

If this were a car and had a scratch in the paint, I would be really upset. However, the blade of a knife is essentially consumable. You use the knife, the edge wears, you remove material to make it sharp again. So, that tiny "almost imperceptible" nick is going to be removed with the first sharpening, so many people feel this is not a big deal at all. You can't simply "sharpen out" a scratch in the paint of your car...it's there forever. A small "almost imperceptible" nick in the edge of a blade will only exist as long as you let it. Since many of the experienced sharpening/user folks here prefer to put their own bevel and edge finish on a knife before they even use it, that tiny almost imperceptible nick is going to be removed before the knife ever cuts anything, so it's basically meaningless. Now, if it were something that happened all the time, or if a particular knife came with several of these nicks, or much larger nicks, then I may consider getting a replacement. If I bought a knife purely as a collector and never planned on sharpening it, then that changes everything and the nick is unacceptable. If you bought a nice shiny wheel barrow to be used to haul rocks around your yard, would it really matter that the paint job was scratched when you bought it, since the first time you use it it's going get scratched up anyway?

I don't use my knives with the intent of getting the blade/edge nicked and damaged, so that analogy doesn't work for me. That's just me though. I'm glad the OP has decided to do what he feels most comfortable with. In the end, it's all good. Have a good days guys.

I've gotten nicks that big in s30v just from cutting cardboard. It doesn't take much if you use a knife for more than a letter opener.

Yes thank you all for the feedback. I decided to keep the knife, and learn to sharpen it, and take the advice about sharpeners and sharpening from the people who have posted on here. Thank you all.
